1st Bikepacking Trip - The Hebrides

Post by nrimmer1005 »

Hi All

After quite a few months my first trip is nearly upon me.

I'm cycling from Glasgow to Oban, ferry over to Barra and then up the Hebridean Way to meet the family in the South Harris house for a week. We've stayed here a few times now.

I'll be riding a specialised Roubaix with Alpkit Love Mud Bomber handlebars and a few bags, see below.

Hopefully all this will fit in the bags lol.

Nice. It's a fantastic trip. Not sure the machair will be flowering yet but it's worth a detour off NCN780 when you get to Daliburgh/Dalibrog on South Uist to get to the machair path then stay on it to somewhere around the golf course.

If you are looking for a campsite then I can thoroughly recommend Balranald on North Uist. You're only a few metres from the beach and Anne has a food trailer on site for scones/soup etc.

Remember to buy food to cook if you are in Harris or Lewis on a Sunday as all the shops will be shut.

I would normally be incredibly jealous but I'm off to Balranald for 10 days next month

Hi Mr Routes 8)

I'm booked in at the Balranald campsite already on the Saturday night although if the weather isn't great I'll try and get the last ferry as the cottage we are staying in is at Norton.

However if the weather is better I'll certainly be camping and may even get a look at the Machair
