It's taken me six weeks to write up my account of the GT24, but I hope someone out there enjoys it. For those not in the know, it's a ride from the shores of the Clyde in Glasgow to the Kessock in Inverness, via the West Highland Way and Great Glen Way. It's tough, so hopefully it appeals to some of those folk faster than me who want to attempt it.

I saw the two of you trundling into Drum and you didn't look very happy.

I'd love to re-read the write-up of your first WHW ride and compare it.

FWIW the Abriachan eco-cafe really requires a bit of a visit. It's just so ...... unique. You definitely want to get the lady of the house though.

The vegetation on the paths surrounding it was cut back about a month ago. I'm not sure what's being going on - some dispute between the owners and the GGW folk.

By Drum we were both pretty knackered, Tam causing a minor obstruction lying in the doorway of the Co-op like a tramp with a bike.

On a technical note does your SPOT mount where shown permanently or was that just for transport?

Thanks. The Spot uses a Backcountry Research strap looped to the existing Spot Velcro strap. It went there for the duration of the ride as I had a bum bag so nowhere to put it, but I normally mount it on a shoulder strap so it’s with me in case I lose the bike

Looks like a tough ride; enjoyed the honest appraisal of the trail - never fancied riding the sub standard part of the WHW, but maybe I should get over that...

I guess this event is deliberately 'under the radar' to discourage participation from those not sufficiently determined; is it by invitation only?

It’s not invite only as such - there’s a GT24 Facebook group and Gary vets people joining that, but once you’re on that it’s game on.

You should definitely give it a go - you’re one of the faster types I alluded to in my first post
