Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
but now as i have said, we are unsure. as i said, when you aint had nowt, the thought of handing what you get, over is a very alien thing to do. or am i just being stupid. No, not at all. I'm sure you wont mind me saying this, but you're just a normal bloke, who is embarking on a big change in thei...

There's a good reason Financial Advisers are legally prevented from dispensing advice freely over the Internet. This^^ If you need some advice around how to manage a significant amount of money over a long period of time then its best to speak to an IFA who is qualified/regulated/insured to give yo...

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
while dave makes a good point, how helpful is the concept of 'well if we all did it'? if we all did or didnt do a bunch of things the world would be a very different place. should we wait until we all can and want to, do something, before doing it. we all live off the back of others, and i think we...

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
I’m sure others have done this, but try living off what cash you’d have from that meagre lifestyle now and see how you get on for 6 months? Putting the remainder of your cash in a savings account. You can then see how realistic it is. (Plus your ability to go and live that lifestyle may not be possi...

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
And, having said that, when you have so much free time it can be surprising how frustrating it can be to find the time to do all the things you want to do as other things fall into your diary because you have more time (if you see what I mean)! Think Kevin has said that in another thread. Because y...

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
The dream is to have unlimited time to do the things I want to do, the nightmare would be to have the time but not be able to afford to do the things I want. Instead of going Big Bang, see if you can reduce the days you work from 5 to 4, 4 to 3 etc to ease the transition. Sure there’s the odd shift...

Speak to Kevin (Blackhound) or Jack P.
Both retired early to concentrate on other things.
Depends how meagre you mean?
£100 per week each meagre?
(after bills)
Theres always a compromise somewhere, but as someone wise once said money only has a value when you spend it*

https://www.bikecalc.com/gear_inches I use this to work out what gearing I need. ~20 inches get ups anything off road (anything lower you might as well get off and push) ~30 inches for road riding Works for Calderdale, and if its works here it'll work anywhere else. All depends where that leads you ...

Yes thats the one.
There is an app for it, and if you want a big screen then you could just get a mount to add your phone to your bars?
Unsure how user friendly it is though?

Basically its like the Bolt, but has a colour screen has underlying base maps and is £100+ more expensive. If you want a Wahoo i'd just by the Bolt as you can do 99% of the extra things you can get inbulit in the Roam via a smartphone, but spend the additional £100 on beer. The positives of the Waho...

Tony, For the second city: Between Glasgow and Cappercleuch is worth avoiding. Lots of road and wind farms. Recommend the section between Cappercleugh and Alston. A good mix of forest rode and country lanes. One shortish section on the A7. Resupply a bit sparse on that section. Sure when you get to ...

Not much use at the moment, but as Greg says its best going to a proper shop where you can try on a few and have a go on a running machine to check.
Usually size up slightly over a normal shoe to stop your toes hitting the front of the shoes.
Where abouts are they rubbing?

Re: Tyre question (sorry!)
I'm just about to pull the trigger on a pair of 29er wheels as an alternative wheelset for my fat bike and am pondering potential tyre choices. As ever budget is a consideration and I've been looking at Maxxis Ardent 2.4s and WTB Ranger 2.6s which are both available pretty cheaply just now. My inte...

Things staying as they currently, until Easter. Hopefully then a combination of sufficient people being vaccinated and the arrival of Spring will help things, and we’ll see restrictions being relaxed over the summer. If you’re thinking dates for the WRT, then the August bank holiday would be the mos...

I am beginning to wonder if I might have more fun not taking the bike and making it a raft / train type affair but we'll see in the New Year. :-bd From when we went to Scotland this year, it was much more enjoyable paddling without any weight on the boat. Handled a lot better and was more fun rathe...

Lots of people bought bikes during lockdown earlier in the year as it was one of the things you could do.
