A lot more difficult if you are off-road as there is no inbuilt "routing" along tracks (or the bits between them). I find http://www.bikehike.co.uk really useful for auto-routing and route plotting, as it will auto-route along both OSM and Google tracks, and the latter often includes fore...

The tooth profile only needs to engage the chain on the leading (loaded) edge of the gap between the teeth, what happens on the trailing edge doesn't really matter so long as it fits between the chain rollers. I can't see the point on a 2x10 setup with a 42T cassette tooth... Means you can run a larger small ring at the front, which means you can run a larger big ring and therefore gain some at the top end... thinking of something like 30-44 or 28-42. I'm still on 8-speed all over, so building custom 13-...

If you do want to go down the tent route, keep 'em peeled on eBay for a Saunders Jetpacker. No longer made, but a genuine 1.25kg 1-2 man tent. Usually go for around £80.
