Re: South West Bivvy?
Devon Dirt on 17 April. 'Most' people heading for Dartmoor. http://www.devondirt.co.uk/ PS Am thinking about Braunton 150 but starting in Plymouth. It adds 100 miles with Plymouth Braunton so start finish in Plymouth 350 miles total. But it is only a thought at present. I would have loved to join i...

Re: Advice on Caingorms Outer loop
How fit is the group? We had a couple of guys who weren't regular riders so did the loop over 3 nights - wild camped outside Kingussie the first night, tomintoul on 2nd and Braemar on the last. We had an evening meal in the Invercauld arms at Braemar and it was decent. There is a little cafe called...

Advice on Caingorms Outer loop
Hi All - I'm doing the Cairngorms outer loop with four other riders. Starting at Blair Atholl on Friday May 20th in the morning. Plan is to stay overnight in Aviemore on the first night, and Braemar on the second night, then back to Blair Atholl on the Sunday to catch a train back to London. Open to...

Re: South West Bivvy?
4 days? Two! 50ish miles a day. Another option is to start at Taunton, do a day in Quantocks and ride to Exmoor for an over night stay. Then spend the day in Exmoor and finish in Minehead and to get on a train back. Will need to GPS roots, one for Quantocks and one for Exmoor, and a patch to connec...

Exmoor from Taunton via Quantocks is sounding like a very attractive ride.

No trains out of London on 26th, so 27/28 are out. (frustration setting in slowly)KamelTrek wrote:Leaning towards 27/28 as recovery might take longer in some cases.
I'm holding off on this thread and trip for now until I find a more suitable date.

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015
I have to attend to the Mrs next weekend as she will be recovering from a medical procedure. Gutted that it's come last minute and bang on the weekend I was planning.
My other options are Dec 22&23, or Dec 27&28. Hope this works!

Working on my packing list. Should I carry a just-in-case tent or go for the Bothy with an emergency bivvy? And should I bring my portable stove + dry food. I have an Alpkit Brukit.

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015
Thx Scat - only if it's not too much trouble as I don't want to trouble you guys. Would be great to socialize the evening before the big ride anyway. I'll plan to stay over night in Shrewsbury then and we can go either direction. Finishing in Dovey Jct might present more train options to rerun to Lo...

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015
Today's rain and wind was perfect to test my gear out. Long range forecast is holding up. I'm very hopeful I won't have to test my gear again.
I'm OK with any direction. Shrewsbury and Knighton may have more options for my Friday night stay.

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015
Don't let a little bit of weather scare you off - you can still see through rain. :) 2 days is acceptable with an early start...I started at 11am a few weeks back and with abysmal conditions made it half way on the first day. An early start on the 2nd day and we should be done before the last train...

Re: Trans Cambrian - Dec 18-20 - 2015
Good to have options at 50 and 70 miles. I say Bothy if wet. Will save me the weight of a tent and morning faffing around to pack up.
But if my wish comes true and it's sunny / dry-ish (you must think I'm crazy by now) then it's out in the stars with a fire to warm up.

Train gets to Knighton at 7:15 p.m. on Friday Dec 18. I'll Bunk there overnight and hit the trail first thing Saturday at dawn.
I wouldn't mind some wild camping Saturday night. It will have to be somewhere 50-60 miles into the route. Let me Know if you have a spot in mind.
