Re: Do you know the weight of your bike and kit?

Agree that losing weight is the way to go, but it's nowhere near as much fun. I have access to DEXA, bod pod, etc. From DEXA, at 68kg, I'm 7.2% body fat. I'm currently 71.2kg. I know I feel much better on the bike sub 70kg, but keep my weight down in my job (utterly sedentary) means watching the cal...

They'll make it a bit longer if you ask. I had 16cm added to a Quilt 150 for 28 euro.

Not on the same scale, but the poor sods down by the river in Otley are having a sub standard time. Flooded in November, then again on Boxing day. We're on an amber for flooding tomorrow. The flood plain that carried it all in to the park was up for sale for housing development only last year :roll:...

Re: Trek Farley

I really like the carbon 9.x 2016 Farley frame, but 27.5 Fat? There's only one tyre. Maybe Trek are so big it doesn't matter, and I guess you can always put 26 x 5 in instead. I'd just feel like a hostage to Trek's whims, and I'm already caught by buying a Stache, albeit at least there's a bunch of ...

I was reading about those on the bikepacking.net site, you can get them in the UK for roughly the same price. Be interesting to hear how you get on with it, It sound like it would be worth it for "race mode" Just check the sizing, I've heard some people say that it's not big enough to fit...

my favourite is http://www.gpxeditor.co.uk/ 1. lots of maps 2. good routing options 3. waypoints for direct routing plus routing as per mapsource 4. handles undo without going bonkers wishlist 1. include elevation in routing as an option - ie go hilly / don't go hilly 2. include popularity in routin...

Plotted a dreadful 40km loop late last night. The first 10km was and exercise in sneaking through farmyards I probably shouldn't have been in before 6am, followed by a lengthy trudge through knee deep heather and boggy moorland, before I finally found some real trail, and then realised I had to head...

I also got a Sawyer Mini filter thinking it would be less bulk and weight, but I find it very difficult to get water in the 16oz 'bladder', which would also be prone to damage/splitting. Try blowing the bladder up first, I find it makes filing much easier. I will also behave like a camel and drink ...

Re: Garmin Etrex Vista HCx

I have an Etrex 30 and a HCx Vista/Legend(whichever has the barometer and magnetic compass). Other than how quickly the 30 locks on, and that it can do ANT, I think the 30 and the HCx range are equal. That you can have night maps makes the HCx better in some respects. Some audaxers prefer the HCx ra...

Yes, so where I have an etrex 30, the file includes

creator="eTrex 30"

Changing that to

creator="eTrex 30 with Barometer"

makes Strava read the elevation data.

I edit in Notepad or Notepad++

Re: Sus forks for 29+

DrMekon, I had the same issue with a set of forks in the Peak Dist years ago. Forks flex at the seal/bush area and if the dust seal opens up a tiny gap and lets a bit of grit in, that then scores the fork really fast. I think one ride with grit in the seal like this can cause some damage. It's a ra...

Re: Sus forks for 29+

So my pair of these developed a 4cm vertical scratch on one stanchion whilst riding the Peak 200 in dry weather. IMO, and in the opinion of my LBS, this could only be from something getting stuck in the seal, and in that they were 3 months old (but admittedly 2000km), it was very disappointing. The ...

BTW, for those of you who care about elevation on Strava, you can make strava read the barometer data from an Etrex by editing the gpx file - just find "Etrex", then change it to "Etrex with Barometer" and save it. Upload that and you've get the missing metres of climbing. That'...
