Re: Stolen Goat buy Wildcat
Strangely for me, I was an early adopter of Wildcat gear, I think I am the proud owner of one of the first batch of custom full frame bags made by Beth. This was the best part of 15 years ago and it's first proper outing was WRT#2 where she was curious to know how it was performing. The bag is still...

Re: Mapping / routes archive question
If it wasn't so poorly supported in the UK, I'd suggest Wikiloc, it's perfect for this type of thing. Just subscribe (foc) with an appropriate user name and upload the routes to your area. Just make sure they're ticked as public and anyone can see and download them whether they have a paid (€10 pa) ...

Amazing performance, he took the lead at just past the 1,000km mark when the previous leader Matteo de Marchi dropped out with medical issues. De Marchi had ridden 72 hours with 50 minutes stopped. Brutal!

Re: FS: Acepac Gear
That's great if you could, it would save a lot of customs hassle. I'm happy if you want the bar accessory bag as well, I've got a harness and it works well, it sits low but the pads leave enough room for cables and fingers on the bar.

Hi Jimmy,
I'll take the 16l saddle drybag and possibly the 5l bar bag, I'll PM you re delivery, it's complicated.

Re: Jellied Eel's Alternative
I really like Lizard skin 2.5 or 3.2mm, full retail is stupid but some deals can be had for uncommon colours, I got brown for less than £20 last year but unhelpfully can't remember where. What about double taping the main pressure points with offcuts if comfort is important.

Why not go for the worst of both worlds and buy a Lauf? Added benefit of reducing overall weight due to having an empty wallet.

Re: What's the default GPS recommendation nowadays?
Rich, there is no reason why a "standard" Explore 2 shouldn't work with a power cable attached to the (at last!) USB-C port, most Edges can be powered via a buffer powerbank which is in turn powered by a dynamo. I complained about the Explore 2 when it was announced end of last year, it ti...

They look great, please put me down for one. Could I ask that you simply fold it up as minimally as possible and put it in an simple envelope, if you have to put a label on it, please declare it as nil value as the socks you sent me cost €12 to get out of the post office as there was a handling char...

I accept that this may not be as useful in the UK due to their not being a critical mass of users but most of the current generation Edge units have the IQ function which links it wirelessly to Strava, Komoot and Wikiloc. I don't do Strava and wouldn't trust Komoot to navigate me from home to the sh...

The Metallica discussions a couple of posts ago connects nicely with a documentary I found on Netflix https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6997426/ and watched recently. The place they restored for the 50th anniversary of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly is visited by the Spanish Divide route. A chunk of the ...

Bit of advice on the Kaffenback, before you throw a leg over it , get the bottom bracket shell chased and faced as well as removing the paint from the disc mounts and aligning them. Saves a lot of wear on bb bearings and improves brake pad life and performance. I built dozens of these when I worked ...

After 7 years of returning to the UK, this Christmas we'll be staying here in Cataluña for the first time. Eldest son is visiting, arriving in Barcelona on Monday so we're having a couple of days there doing the tourist thing, visiting the Sagrada Familia and Gaudi house. I definitely won't miss the...

Sat in the village bar atm getting funny looks from the ubiquitous group of old codgers as I've just burst out laughing at the MOD gimp mask. I watched Pulp Fiction last night for the first time in years and the Bruce Willis scene with the immortal words "bring out the gimp" is still givin...

I know that these photos should be posted with minimal comment but I've just bought a "proper" compact, a Panasonic LX15 which has a 1" sensor whatever that means. It's possible to shoot with aperture priority and adjust the depth of field accordingly. I want to try taking decent phot...
