Re: Advice on Filtering water
We collected water in cups, pan and lid from the tent fly. That's fine if your tent fly is perfectly clean and hasn't been treated with those chemicals they use to make nylon water repellent........... If you pack your kit away damp after it's rained it goes mouldy, where do you think the mould com...

Re: Advice on Filtering water
I mean it looks a pretty dark colour and grim in places, so wheres best and where to avoid? Dark like peaty? Clear but dark brown can be (quite) safe, especially when it comes directly from a spring. chlorine tablets are the only sure fire way of killing everything. Chemical agents may not be able...

Re: Lachlan Morton on the great divide
Wanted to write this before the server mistook its knee for its nose and was afraid my long rambling had broken it. I like how Lachlan is honest about his style (media crew, contact with friends etc.) before he even started his trip. I also like how he plans to deal with rests yet still has an eye ...

Re: Gravel bike clothing
Sorry Reginald, no exclusion intended. Happy to add the obvious to my first answer. If a certain fairy tale is of a high relevance, wear a snow white costume. If a specific childrens novel from 1865 is of high relevance, wear a rabbit suit. If wanting to feel like a DH racer is of high relevance, we...

Re: Gravel bike clothing
Here's a suggestion. Think about why exactly you're riding a gravel bike. If speed is of a high relevance, wear lycra. If style is of a high importance, read fashion magazines and wear what's shown there. For lycra I can highly recommend Assos. Well worth the price. There's gravel specific Assos stu...

Re: Blagging bike boxes in Nice?
Bunch of us riding from Geneva to Nice in September - any tips where we can get boxes for the flight home? There are numerous bike shops in Nice and it seems they can be bought (for €€'s) at the airport, but any tips for the budget conscious........ Cheers I find a shop (before my trip), ask if the...

They're maintenance free if you don't maintain them  Love it. Has a Homer Simpson logic to it :-bd Does occasionally oiling the chain count as maintenance if you just splosh some more on when the noise gets too much? No need to bother; in Homer Simpson logic, you could deal with the noise by l...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
It seems pointless to me, I always say if you're going to have gears - have lots. If you want, reliable, maintenance free (but never in the right gear  ) go singlespeed. Once you add the complexity of changeable gears then have enough to make it worthwhile. I have 3 single speed bikes. Their ...

Re: Accuracy of elevation given in OS Maps app
Ta Mr B :-bd GPS altitude is the (potentially) least accurate part of the system. Typically the error in altitude is up to three times that for longitude and latitude. It's just down to how GPS works. You need at least four satellites to get altitude data and ideally one of those is close to overhe...

What have others done in the past when starting getting into it? Any experiences from hindsight? Either bivy with no protection but just a sleeping bag/mat or my former single wall mountaineering tent (very low dome). I still go with the cow boy camping method in stable weather, all seasons. Nothin...

Any suggestions of a cleaning trick that might work Thanks to the good description of your's, I'm sure the only way to deal with it is to bin it. Yeah, that's a tricky one. Whilst it doesn't quite seem as bad in my case, I recongnise myself in many of your words Rockbus. And yet... I manage to drag myself out regularly to still the deep rooted curiosity. Mostly alone. Sometimes spontaneous (even a Iceland traverse in wintry conditions), somet...

Assumginly Yeti has ever since been without any brand name complaints from the abominable snowman. Which in different regions of the Himalayas has different names anyways. Re: Iceland Divide 2024: need advice on tent, sleeping mat and stove
Getting everything from Extremtextil the material costs where round about 110 €. Bear in mind I have to make two quilts, if I buy if from Spain, it's 380 eur (12 meters of 7D + 5 meters of Apex 200) including vat and delivery. I can save 21% by ordering from UK but then I have to pay uk vat plus cu...

I don't pay to join Air BnB or booking.com, I just pay to book a campsite or room. Indeed and with that payment you pay fees. Schwalbe Wicked Will new in Schwalbe's lightest mtb casing option - "Super Race", yet the second grippiest compound - "Soft".
Unpectacular for most. Quite exciting for me though
Given their latest releases followed suite by availability, this should be in shops soon.

Re: Iceland Divide 2024: need advice on tent, sleeping mat and stove
You may not needed for Apex, but I suggest going with calendered fabrics. They tend to work better with humidity, wind and dirt.
I'd probably rather go with a calendered 10D than a non calendered 7D.
If you don't mind ordering from DE, check out Extremtextil.de. Fantastic shop.

Not only would I, but I did on all (3) quilts I made and said liner bag. My go to winter bag is also completely from 7D as are some of my and my girlfriends down clothing. So far so good. Except for that time (winter, probably 2018) when I didn't tighten the bar harness enough and the front, studded...
