Re: Sleeping Socks
My answer to cold feet is a hot water bottle (actually, a small platypus bottle) and dry socks. Half fill with cold water (not the socks  )then top up with hot. I find I can’t get to sleep with cold feet, but once they’re warm, they stay warm. As an extra bonus, the water still has some heat i...

I had a tank slapper on a 1939 Royal Enfield Flying Flea. It wasn’t terrifying, because it was on a grassy field and I doubt the speed was over 25mph.yourguitarhero wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 6:26 pm I once had a tankslapper on a GSXR600 at full throttle. Absolutely terrifying!

I’m in again.
1/12 on the WE with RIP, MuddyPete and Raggedstone. Reg has brilliantly covered the trip in the WE thread and I have no more to add.

Well, what a weekend it was! It was great to ride with (follow - I had nothing to do with routing, I just tailed along) RIP, Muddypete And Raggedstone. And we got to see THE waterwheel in the mine. Impressive! Apart from the riding and good companions, my WE was notable for forgetting my riding jack...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
It’s been a pretty miserable Friday up until 7 o’clock when our big cat came home after being AWOL for three days. The day he went missing, I came down in the morning and found the utility room that the cats are shut into at night literally covered in cat poo. It was spread about the floor, on a pil...

Tomorrow will be a lot cheerier than it might have been. Emergency op to fix a torn retina yesterday, after a previous attempt with lasers two weeks ago. This time they used cryotherapy - freezing with liquid nitrogen. Scary stuff. Only a local anaesthetic. I don't think they actually pop your eyeb...

Re: Global Bike Day (As I dont have a fat bike) Short Video
Thanks for a beautiful video. I don’t know how you do it - have you a Time Machine ? It must take hours to set up the shots - I’m thinking, stop, set up the camera, ride back the trail a bit, turn around and ride past the camera, then stop and retrieve the camera. Not to mention the drone video. And...

A brilliant effort there, Reg & MP, though I wonder how you reconciled all the extra weight given what a weight weenie you are. You have eclipsed my steak'n'chips from my WRT this year by a long shot. :-bd ….And yes obviously one has to have a f*** (now then now then) at Crimbo, but equally obvi...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
Last BaM for 2023. Coinciding with Global Fatbike Day. I'd wanted to make more of an effort, but I was working nights last night and didn't get out of bed early enough, so the Fatty was hastily loaded and I set off mid-afternoon to bivvy in a spot I've had in my sights for a good while. Arrived afte...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
The original plan was an open sided barn two and a half hours away. While I actually managed to sleep last night, it was drug induced, and I think another night of that might be a good idea. I've never bivvied in the same location twice, but there is a local open sided barn, only a few KM away, tha...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.
BaM for November. There was a frosty layer on the car as I left home at around seven o’clock, bound for a place I’d bivvied in my first year of BaM. Twelve miles of lanes later, I pitched my hammock on Larkton Hill, and found I’d forgotten to pack my tarp. Again! A dry night was forecast so it seeme...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Actually, Lu, one of the advantages of these temperatures is you could do a re-enactment of the famous 'watertrough' bivvy and be guaranteed not to get an accidental dunking because it would be frozen! There’s a thought. Hmm. I think I'd need better insulation to prevent me from melting a hole unde...

There was a bit of ice on the puddles, yes, but only -1 on our wall thermometer in the garden when I got home. I was too warm, with an Alpkit cloud cover inside my Cumulus 350 and UK hammocks underquilt. I had to uncover in the night.

Cheery coz I'm in my hammock BaM-ing for December. I've still got a couple of slurps of Captain Morgans and I can go to sleep looking at the stars through the trees. Less cheery because I can see the stars, because I've forgotten my tarp again. Doh!
