Re: Bivvy a month 2014 thread.
Great stuff FLV. Must have had some very high quality time. bivvied with my girlfriend in poor show weather last night. Saw a hare - easter bunny? - and believe it must have frozen to death. Landscape completely covered in white stuff. Tested my DIY Primaloft quilt weighing in at 320 g. Temps down t...

Re: Newbie Sleeping Bag advice..
Here they have both, down bags and down quilts for a fair price: http://sleepingbags-cumulus.eu X-Lite 200 (old version, w/o zip) including basic clothes (legwarmers/longjohns and a sweater or two) and a light weight down smock (200 g) gives me decent warmth down to about -5 °C, said that, I don't n...

Well done. You and Ian did talk a fair bit about filming and editing. Now I know why.
My friends all enjoyed it as well.

Re: Wales Tour: Great Orme to Worm's Head
"A welsh riding experience" Thanks for that Ian. Best Guide for Wales. Despite or because of the weather I really enjoyed it. Considering where and the distance we rode I thought it had quite an adventurous aspect to it. Those "specials" like windfall trees, the ford, wind driven...

Re: Budget 29er wheels..
Superstar Switch, CX-Ray, alloy nipples, Pacenti rim vs. Hope Hoops with a Stans rim. Infact my custom Superstar wheel was more expensive (about 100 g lighter and incomparably weaker).
Oops, 130 quid... jupp those Hope hoops are more like 215 quid rear only.
Well, that was not much help then

Re: Budget 29er wheels..
My Superstar Switch hub was rather quiet. Didn't last long though. I cannot recommend Superstar hoops. Much, much better experience with Hope hoops and Stans rims. Can't beat Flow EX for intense trail use. For lighter riding Arch EX. I think I suffer from less punctures because of the shape of the r...

Re: Brands?
Superstar. Thought I got some good and cheap wheels. Didn't last a year. Busted hubs, cracked freewheel body, badly tensioned (did tension them for ages first thing I received them), badly greased (when new) hubs. And then the rest was poor show too, but that's not Superstars' fault. Pacenti rim, CX...

Re: Highland trail 550!!
I went through the same thing last year. You seem to know what to do: "Maybe I should have a break from it all for a week or so. Do a bit of walking, rafting, or just jump in the van for a wee drive and plant myself somewhere scenic for a day or two. I'll feel guilty as hell for doing so - afte...

Two nights in the engadin. One in this area: http://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/00ade5-1394804365.jpg and then not far from here: http://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/db2857-1394804426.jpg Probably my last fat bike trip for this winter. I'm currently running 4.8" tires instead of the 4.0 floaters s...

Re: Terra Nova Discovery Lite Bivvi Bag
Its an interesting idea, what sleeping bag do you use that copes with dew? Any ripstop nylon I use does. Pertex Quantum GL, Pertex Endurance (only in winter) and also a cheaper no name ripstop does a very similar job. You can proof your bag yourself, just like you proof your waterproofs (save the o...

Re: Terra Nova Discovery Lite Bivvi Bag
I've stopped using bivy bags (except space blanket types - if I ditch the sleeping bag) more than a decade ago. I feel I get more shelter from a tarp. And if it's not raining, there's just no need for a bivy bag in my point of view. Pertex and similar materials cope very well with morning dew, snow ...
