Re: Laminating printed maps
You can waterproof a normal OS map with a waterproofing spray like Grangers or similar. I did it years ago and worked a treat. Cant remember what I used though. Google it and theres plenty of info on doing it online.

Re: OS app. Any good?
Backcountry Navigator app is good but does require a mobile signal. You can download a gpx to it and view at 1:25000 for the whole of the uk. Useful at night to view the following days route.....if you've got a signal

Still got a 9spd triple here on my 29er. Only had 1 front mech mishap in 30 years and I can always find just the right gear.

Re: Leave no trace: mainstream media
I had a similar experience on Yr Wyddfa aswell. I decided to ride/push up to the summit from Llanberis and whilst riding the last 2-300meters the train chugged passed loaded with Americans all gawping at me. I'd just sat down and was instantly surrounded by XXXL stone washed denim, fat bellies, tenn...

Re: All the bears.
If anyone with the computer wizardry skills can produce a GPX of the outermost track I'd be very interested. Its gotta be the Polar Bear for a dec/Jan attempt. URSA Major is v clever too but I imagine it's going to be alot like the 4 corners of hell when riding!

If you're using tubes and not fussed about being lightweight I'd be going for schwalbe smart Sam's 700x40c.

Re: GRRR. Cracked rim again
They obviously are a bit heavier Mart but I can't say I noticed much difference. I knew they were a stronger rim so gave me the confidence to go a bit quicker through the rougher stuff and I'd rather that than worry about a few grams. I once did the Cairngorms loop on a pair of Crests and spent 3 da...

Re: GRRR. Cracked rim again
Towards the end of the HT550 route the bike was creaking a bit.......every drive side spoke hole had cracked. Stans mk3 32H. On top of that the sharp edge of the rim had chewed through the tyre bead front and back so I had to stick tubes in. Utter poor show. Rebuilt using DT swiss M502's and haven't...

Really struggled to watch that. Amazing scenery and looked a good little trip out but that blokes voice and the scripted sub standard he was reading out was utter bollox.
