Spar.co.uk and coop food version are actually pretty handy.
Thanks for all the hints and tips :)

Any online sourced for local information?
I am planning a light route in a part of the country I am not familiar with - I have mapped my route using bikehike to create a GPX file but now I am struggling to find information relating to the nearest SPAR / COOP stops and pubs or cafes. Do you guys have online resources you use for locating tha...

If you are in a remote location with little to no noticeable GSM network would you know if the unit had managed to send a message out or not?

Re: Water, Water every where an not a drop to drink
Another happy Sawyer mini user here. Where it does not filter out heavy metals or any nasties smaller than 0.2um they should not really be a concern when drinking free flowing water in the wild in 1st world countries (unless there is a dead animal a couple of feet up stream from you). I have used it...

Re: Off road bikes are confusing
I have a 26x2.2 hardtail Kona Mtb and still tend to use my boardman hybrid fitted with 700x38 tyres about 90% of the time when I bikepack (for those that don't know the boardman hybrid it is on the road bike end of the hybrid spectrum and has solid forks). The only thing I don't like about the hybri...

I would rather have longevity than uber lightness so my preference is Argon90 but I would join in regardless.
A colour other than the strange golden condom thing my winter quilt has going on would be good : )

Re: Custom Superlight Quilt Run - Whos in
I am very interested. Don't think I would want to go back to a sleeping bag after trying my UK Hammocks winter quilt and it is too damn warm for summer use!

Re: Oooh a new stove.
Methanol has a higher vaporization pressure so may burn a little faster / hotter. It is also pretty toxic through inhalation, ingestion and contact with the skin so probably not the best cooking fuel. The methanol used in air brakes also tends to have additional additives. Methanol is what is added ...

Is this ^^ a meths only issue? I would assume pure ethanol would not leave a lingering taste / smell if it leaked?

Re: Waterproof overtrousers?
I don't mind cycling in the wet but like to stay a bit more dry / comfortable in camp. To this end I am trialling a pair of lightweight water resistant over trousers made by cutting the bottom half off a tyvek crime scene onsie. They are very light and easy to pack and give me a bit of comfort aroun...

Would anyone on here consider creating a google calendar for bike packing events? That way, people can add it to the google calendar on android phones and in chrome browser etc. If people think it is a good idea but no one else wants to do it I don't mind - so long as people provide me with dates an...

Has anyone bought one of these? If so, is there a cheapest source on the internet anywhere? I was out last night (after bumping into a fellow forum member in the hills above Dunkled) and discovered that my memo gogo has condensation issues when there is rain, high winds and lower temperature. I awoke to a little puddle and a wet down quilt :( Would something like a luxe minipeak 2 be bette...

Re: Meths Stove Recommendations
@Zoglug
I have been looking at the bearbones ones and they look good but I am not sure which size would be best suited to my usage.
Would the 8g be too small or the 22g too big? I would probably lean towards the 22g based on not knowing if the 8g has enough capacity to cook what I want it to!

Meths Stove Recommendations
I am a gas cooker! I have never used meths. ever. With the aim of reducing what I carry (more volume than weight) and knowing how much fuel I actually have when I leave on a trip, I would like to dip my toes into the waters of meth stoves. After trawling the tinterweb for about 3 or 4 days now I am ...
