Walk out on the Essex Marshes yesterday and had a good haul,
Barn Owl, Short Eared Owl, Marsh Harrier and a Spoon Bill were the noteworthy sightings.
The day previously a chap had seen a Golden Oriole but I was not so lucky.

Re: Phone case
I use a Unicorn Beetle Pro on my Samsung S10 but mine doesn't have a screen protector so can't vouch for that option.

I'm in for this year.
I was hoping for good weather seeing as one Dave B, the sub standard weather magnet, was no longer taking part but hopes were dashed when I realised Karl's name is still on the list

Re: New GPS ideas please.
Why not simply carry some spare AA batteries? I can give several reasons 1) changing them in minging weather opens risk of water getting into GPS 2) I've mistakenly carried discharged batteries 3) expensive if using Lithiums 4) does not take advantage of a dynamo 1.) Possible I suppose but never ha...

Would I be wasting my time resticking the vibram sole on my shoe
Riding in the Lakes at the weekend and after going over Black Sail Pass and Scarth Gap my Shimano MT54 shoe cried enough and the Vibram sole parted company with the upper. It would appear that the two are only held together with adhesive originally, has anyone successfully restuck a shoe and if so w...

Re: 3/4 length sleeping mats
I use a 3/4 mat and I also use a pillow but not positioned on top of the mat which makes the whole set up longer and
with knees slightly bent I don't have issues with feet hanging over the end of the mat. (5'10")
The pillow is raised up to the right level with kit I am not wearing.

No regrets and no looking back other than fond memories of the good stuff.
Although I do miss waking up in the morning feeling brand new !!
A rather scary fact I discovered recently is that the average healthy life expectancy is 63.4 years for men and 64.1 for women.

Re: Where would you live in the UK...
I live in a small village in Essex and have always wanted to live somewhere remote but work and family have always meant staying put and a long drive for me to get my hit of hills and it's something I have grown use to. Essex actually has some great riding but not much MTB stuff, another plus is the...

I found this piece by Mark Hines a good few years back and think has some good points relevant to the topic ; "Life is far too short and precious to miss out, preoccupied with a pursuit of the unnecessary. It might be made more comfortable with more money, more and/or better status symbols and...

I have an alteration to make the route better for the Smoke Ring if anyone wants to have a go at that one. Andy - I might be interested in that. Re: Future plans.....??
For my June trip I am thinking of either Pembrokeshire area which I do not know very well or a Barmouth to Yarmouth trip. Need to plan something and make a decision, sometimes being retired I just prevaricate as no stress on time to do something at a set time. There's a N/S Divide route somewhere K...

Lots of loose ideas but one idea I have been planning is cycling from home to catch the Harwich to Hook of Holland Ferry then follow the Rhine River to Switzerland and pick up the Hope 1000 route. https://bikepacking.com/routes/hope-1000/ Fly back from Geneva. What's the chances of that happening :r...
