Re: Exposure Red Eye stopped working (powered off a Revo)

Yeah, you'd want to either prevent the cable from being plugged in, or use some electronics that protects it in the event of user error. We should be long past the days where a £240 bike light doesn't take either approach. It's quite sweet really. Bless it.

Re: Exposure Red Eye stopped working (powered off a Revo)

Thanks both. As an occasional designer of user interface myself, I was so confident that they'd have used different plugs if the headlight couldn't cope with it that I didn't check it as carefully as I should have. I mean, how on earth did they ever leave the factory like that?! In the past I've had...

Exposure Red Eye stopped working (powered off a Revo)

I've got an Exposure Revo headlight and a Red Eye rear, on a SON hub. Does anybody know whether plugging the dynamo's output into the Revo's output socket (the one that powers the rear light) would fry the socket? As those of you who've got one will know, the plug on the rear Red Eye light is identi...

If they don't have it any more, I've got a new in box Carnac enduro (blue) that I don't need that you can have for £15. It's the larger size.

Re: Best route planner.

I had to spend two days learning about tracks, routes, and Basecamp when I got my first Garmin, but having done an (admittedly frustrating) deep dive into the above I've never found Basecamp lacking for actual route creation. There are a few annoying bugs in the way it handles mapping files, and oth...

Re: Two Zero One Eight plans . . .

Apart from making it to the start of the winter event, I'm only planning on the Dirty Reiver so far. Other than that, I intend to have a lot of nice days/weekends out on the bike. I'd also like to spend less time wielding spanners and more time riding, which suggests I should aim to flog a bike or t...

Re: Yorkshire Winter Bivi

I think lack of an appropriate bike is going to rule me out of this. I have one, but it's in bits, and my plan to rebuild it last weekend didn't really pan out.

Sorry Chew, and I hope you all have a cracking time. Snow could be fun.

I'm a bit miffed - I'm not going to be able to make it. I now need to be in Edinburgh on the Friday night (work party), and can't see how I can get back down to the Hope valley fast enough.

BB200 - did you lose a battery pack?

My mate found a small battery pack at the side of the track along Claerwen reservoir. We stuck it in my frame bag, then I totally forgot about it and have only just unpacked it…

If you lost one, PM me a description. If it's yours i'll post it…

Re: Genesis "Fugio"....

I don't know much about this, but can give you an example. 853 isn't necessarily better than (eg) 631. It's stronger, so you can use a tube with a thinner wall, and therefore get a lighter bike. You might prefer the feel of 631 (or one of the many others available) though. When I bought my Bob Jacks...

Re: Genesis "Fugio"....

I wonder why that isn't running SRAM Apex or Rival, 1x (which would allow for sensible ratios for what the rest of the bike is capable of). As it stands there's no way I'd recommend that to anybody, but with a 1x setup and low gears you'd struggle to get me to shut up about it. Come to think of it, ...

There's also the Airnimal Rhino. Sus forks. Originally sold with knobby tyres, though it seems to have Marathons on it these days. BMX sized wheels though, so plenty of options there.

Re: How afraid should we be of ticks and Lyme disease?

I picked up a couple in the outer hebrides this year, and dropped into a medical practice for advice. The GP was really on it, and had spent a hell of a lot of effort researching it. I think this summarises the key points he put on the practice hand out: Ticks usually go looking for cover before bit...
