Totally agree Zippy. I relish the chance to use my spanners.Zippy wrote:You'd think there would be more of a market for half decent small frames for children, so you can just keep swapping components out...
Or not - 'spose most people aren't as inclined to use spanners these days.

I had a hoot yesterday riding the fat bike. But that was yesterday. Way more snow today and wind is whipping up the powdery snow. Currently defrosting my dog with a fire on. He was covered in snow balls. Good luck to you if you go out on your bikes.

Re: Drop bars on a 29inch hard tail mountain bike ....daft i
Not a daft idea. People have been bodging that kind of bike in their sheds for years. I first tried it with an On One Inbred 26" wheeled bike about 15 years ago. It received a big whack with the ugly stick to get it feeling right. Then again with an Inbred 29er couple of years ago. Finally just...

Re: Proposed Borders 220
Having done this route when you first planned your Borders350 and the current route, this one going into the beeftub gets my vote. Makes the hike a bike worthwhile But and it is a big but that is a tricky step to negotiate loaded and after a good few hours on the move.

Re: Bivvy a month 2018.
It was supposed to be a gravel ride......... The idea was to do some of the route yet to be released for The Dirty Free(ver). I've been sworn to secrecy so no route notes. An episode of viral arthritis was still plaguing me so I thought I'd take my fat bike. Nice sit up ride position. I also suspect...

Re: First Dynamo wheel build help!
If you've never built a wheel before then I would recommend buying this book https://www.wheelpro.co.uk/wheelbuilding/book.php It will tell you all you need to know to finish up with a wheel as good as any you could buy. It also explains how to measure the hub and rim to use the on-line calculator ...

Thanks Ollie, I remember wondering when you where going to post the last bit. Yes, there will be a 2018 group start, first Saturday of July, registration from 1st March. If you don't fancy doing the full 350 then I'm contemplating adding in a 220 too, same date and time, same start point. Would tha...

Aye, it was an 8 hour drive for Ray and I. Road works played a part in that. Maybe we can coax ray to return this year too.

Re: More cold weather hammock advice please
Am I ever going to be warm in my hammock in the winter? I'm using Cumulus kit - a Taiga 360 hammock quilt and a Selva 300 under quilt. I was really careful how I hung the under quilt - it hung an inch under the hammock and when I put my hand in there, felt warm. Last night was cold but not freezing...
