Re: Water filtration options?
I have some sense of where to find the best source but even then id rather not chance it without filtration as any infection could be devastating as apposed to unpleasant given my medical situation. Ive practiced finding fast flowing sources and clear streams up high, any lowland and i find local ta...

Water filtration options?
So this isnt very adventurous of me but in my few years in outdoors pursuits ive never had to drink from a natural source, which also means i currently dont have any means of filtration. Ive been lucky so far and still believe its a good plan A that theres never a pub or farm that far away. Ive alwa...

Cuben curtains? :-bd About as useful and a chocolate fireguard! For light blocking i recommend 20 denier nylon packed with 4 denier PU wall vinyl, superlight, easier to stitch, blackout curtains! Now cuban shower curtains* would be a great idea! *wait, you haven't patented your "shower curtain...

Re: A Warning!
Too late for me, after my own projects (and you know, running an embroidery business with lots of sewing) it was hard to hide my abilities... Ive have to shorten trousers, bring in a dress, fix a rather fancy bra, make belts and now she's talking about me making a decent sports bra from scratch!! I ...

Call me a heratic but i still like roads, ive got a fairy basic sportive style bike i enjoy, skinny tyres, drops, carbon wheels the lot. But i hate traffic or town, commuting would never work for me. I like the roads up brecon, baren, broken, miles from anywhere (in spirit atleast) and the only soul...

Re: The bikepackers guide to - ethics
Im just glad that the bikepacking comunity and more specifically bearbones is devoid of all elitism. There are plenty of bad people and actions in all sport but nothing ruins anything more than ego and elitism. My favourite hobby got ruined by self appointed marshals and admins on their high horses ...

Re: The bikepackers guide to - ethics
As for bothys, I've never been in one, and would really like to know where they are... ...however I wouldn't want anyone to post it publicly for obvious reasons, I'd rather find one whilst out riding with someone whom knows, via actual face to face communication and mutual trust. The best places are...

I always do, and things usually go out of stock.. I regret it, moan a bit, fantasise about the great things I'd do if I had whatever it was...so on.. Then a week later I've forgotten all about it, realised I was better off without and saved money. The rinse and repeat  Just like your tips on sa...

Re: The bikepackers guide to - ethics
I have my own ethics, some may disagree but it's what I follow and what I believe in my humble opinion is right, I don't need anyone else to tell me that. Respect nature, if you disrespect the mountain she will tear you apart, sometimes morally, sometimes literally. Be nice to everyone, they're all ...

Hills you say? Just head to brecon, pull out your compass, pick a direction and ride! I'm sure the vertical miles will soon add up! Or if you want something more rideable and less tussock the neath valley I'm based in has vast complexes of fire/forrest roads linking the whole valley most of which in...

Re: Sleeping bag dilemma
I picked up an alpkit quilt when it was cheaper, 70something, but I'll admit I wouldn't pay the current price. Everyone complains it's on the smaller size and I suppose it is but I can use it fully buttoned up as a sleeping bag with wiggle room...then again I am tiny! I haven't actually taken it cam...

Re: Shorts? Pants? Trousers?
Can't wear trousers, they keep having ano argument with my drive train and I'm not sure who keeps winning.... Mostly terrain dependant, then weather dependant. For mountain bikepacking trips and touring singletrack I'll wear my endura 3/4 shorts as the knee coverage and tough material helps during f...

Re: Noob Tent Peg Question
I usually just push in by hand so far then use my foot for the rest, no stomping, just steadily putting my weight down till it sinks in. Having a selection of pegs help too for different terrain. I mostly use TI DAC V shape pegs (that's a mouthful) for general points, with alloy Y shape for more wei...

Hard cases for delicate items
Right, halfway through a hike I took a tumble, nothing major but I found myself falling on my bag. After brushing myself off and checking for damage I found my kit was unharmed, but my insulin pen in the outer pocket had snapped! This could have been a serious disaster had I not been only 30 mins fr...

Glucose is heavily controlled in my diet for obvious reasons, no added or refined sugar in my diet at all. Mostly eat low Gi foods, though higher Gi is chosen intentionally sometimes to help with keeping insulin levels steady, as my injections are fast acting, sometimes faster than the food! Excepti...

If you want something more serious then sports Verifocals will give you better transition between reading and riding than bifocals. Re: First Aid kit for bike packing
I never go anywhere without my boo boo kit, its a bit hopeful to call it first aid but I consider it essential. Main concern is would cleaning and protection, anything more serious I'm not trained for. I'm very prone to infection, had a paper cut turn gangrenous and after my father nearly losing an ...
