Re: Garmin advice
GPS signal isn't a problem on a mobile. Its battery life and availability of maps - most are downloaded on the fly. Which isn't much use out in the sticks where you can't get a mobile data signal (3g, 4g etc). Though as johnnystorm says this can be overcome by storing things on your device (sometime...

Yes. You'll need something under you for insulation. I use a foam multimat between the layers of my hammock. Many use a quilt which attaches underneath.

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency
Anyone wishing to join us who hasn't already done so please PM me your email so I can send you the GPX. :-bd My route is a planned 135 miles. It won't be done at racing pace. Expect mostly bridleways, fire road, and tarmaced cycleways. Some of the route is remote. There'll hopefully be a Sunday pub ...

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency
Mark, how long is the long route now? I've lost track! (which might be a preview to the actual event :D ) Approx 135 miles. Couple of shortcuts available too in case the weather turns sour or I'm being too ambitious. I think its an achievable target given last years "A" group did 100 mile...

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency
I've put together a draft for a slightly longer route. So far it's maybe 3-4 of us looking to ride a longer route. My draft is 135 miles(215km) long, with 16700ft (5100m) of ascent. Compared with the 'A group' last year it's an extra 35 miles and 3000ft of ascent. There's a couple of bail out option...

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency
Thanks Stu. Very kind of you. I have my first day planned out nicely. Day 2 I'm working on at the moment. What I will probably need help with is nice bivvy spots along my route. I'd rather not 'go it alone' I do prefer the company but im looking forward to planning my own route and doing some extra ...

Re: WRT2017 LHC dating agency
I'm normally a LHC member but considering giving it a go myself this year. I now know what to look for on the maps for route planning and also prefer to do a bit more mileage (something like 40,70,40). Anyone is welcome to join me.

Re: Tubeless... what do you carry in case of emergency
With regard to removing the valve cores, my Lezyne multi tool has a valve tool on it, although I've never seen reference to it in the literature. On the chain tool the flat bit with lezyne on it, when removed from the threaded part, the open end which is 'U' shaped is the right size to fit a valve ...

Re: Brutal Off-Road Climbs - South / Mid Wales
If your looking for climbs close to home there's a load between Goytre, Margam and Bryn. Especially climbing up out the back of Margam park towards Goytre reservoir and also up the side of the res. If you want long there's a segment "5 mile climb" around that area too.

This is after a couple of 5 mile commutes. The shiny surface has been completely removed. Just put a couple wraps of tape around your post first.

Re: Seatpost bag on Carbon seatpost!
I recommend against using a seatpost on a carbon post. I did and now my post looks like its been sanded down where the seatpack was (by quite a bit!). As suggested putting some tape on the post solves the problem. I used electrical tape afterwards which is a lot easier to get off than say duck tape
