Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

Other thought. Does the Harveys map cover the route? Also, I may be in posh campsite. Yet to decide. Checked out the Harveys, it does look like a fair bit of the route is on it, certainly more than any other single OS map. However they don't have maps that cover: Start -> Feshiebridge Avimore -> In...

Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

Ohh, yes, thanks. From the pdfs it looks like the end of CL1, all of CL2 & CL3 and the start of CL4 are on either 42 or 35, rather than 43 & 36.
Ahh well, it did seem a little too convenient when I thought that the route turned north just before the map edge ;)

Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

Does anyone know if the whole route fits on the two Landranger OS maps of the Cairngorms? Landranger 43 - Braemar & Blair Atholl Landranger 36 - Grantown & Aviemore - Cairngorm Mountains It looks like it probably does. I'm not sure I'll actually take them on the ride, but I do like having ma...

Hmm, I guess I should re-email then, I've not had one and I'm not on the group start list.

I did a proper vaguely exciting bit of "saving", went to FLBS to chat about tubeless conversions for my 29er, came back with this:

Re: Not great gaiters

Ace, good sounding options, thank you.

Yeah, when I did the Pennine Brideway I did get quite a bit of grit in my shoes :(, although I have just got some XM9s, so will be in a better starting place :)

Not great gaiters

Something tells me these gaiters aren't going to be that useful:

Does anyone have any recommendations for gaiters?
I quite fancy getting some (cheapish) to use on the Cairngorms loop.

Re: Sewing machines

Yeah, I'd echo the local shop thing too, there's a really nice little fabric shop in my town, they're really friendly and very happy answer stupid questions about sewing & fabric, they do lessons too, which I'm considering doing one or two to get to grips with the more complicated bits :)

That's so sad, but there is definite brightness on the horizon, for Alzheimer's and quite a few of the similar degenerative brain diseases. Alzheimer's is being shown to be caused by the brain becoming insulin resistant, and so cells are basically starving, but there are ways to fix it, and studies ...

I'll just go for the x-kings, get them on the bike, ride it a bit and make sure all is settled in before the start. Which feels like it's probably a better idea than dithering even longer :)

Re: Cairngorms Loop - Sept Start

I'm going to convert my 29er to tubeless, and to avoid trouble, going to buy some tubeless tyres as well. I had been thinking of the WTB Nanos, because their marketing got me, and I can ride super fast like TDR winning riders with them! ;) But with the talk of it being pretty soggy, I wonder if Cont...

Steve is currently studying quite hard and may not reply. Just rock up. I've been appointed as master of ceremony for the day in his absence. Will do! :) GF has found a lovely looking AirB&B, and booked herself into a distillery tour and some pony trekking. So hopefully I won't be so fast that ...

I just saw this recommended when I was looking at the lights: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KGT96WI
360 degree USB extension, which would mean you could pose the light in any direction you fancied easily. :)

Re: Is it an adventure bike....?

Yep, so much this. I wish I had done exactly this years ago when I bought my first bike. At that time I was tempted by a Specialized Tricross, instead went for a Trek hybrid. After a while that wasn't "road" enough, so got a Madone 2.1. But then I wanted to do "not-road", and the...
