Re: GB Duro Entries open
I've ducked out of the group start as I'm keeping hols free to help mum and dad. I think I will just do a ride up the route one time but probably not this year.

Look at it this way Shaff - if you manage to sort this, bike related fixing will seem easy, ever after! That said stainless bottle cage bolts corrosion welded into ally frames can be much harder as there is less to hack away at!

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Bad luck Dave - mebbes should expand my crash thread to crashes, mechanicals and other bike related misfortune which don't necessarily cause major damage or cost but are a PIA. No cycling for me this weekend as down at Mum and Dads - Dad is still in care after a knee replacement opp so helping Mum s...

Crashing....
Anyone who has properly smashed themselves up in a bike crash ignore, this is for wusses like me who do stupid things.... So a month or so back I was out on the Krampus on a dark, but unseasonably dry and calm night. Semi fallen tree at trail side decides to grab hold of bars and wrench them from my...

A pair of panaracer grovel tyres from Bannanananana industries - a mere £20 each. The down side is that they are light brown and green but once they have been through the local glaur they will be all dark brown....

Re: Capital trail... but which version?
There was some chat on this between me and Lazarus a wee while back - I have the old route and he had the new one, which I think is the one on Bikepacking.com. A forum search may find it.....
If you pm me an email address I'll send you the one I have - from 2018 I think.

So glad you mentioned that Phil. I actually ordered this from Screwfix for my Dremel (yes, it's not the first time I've had to deal with stripped bolts, but bikes are easy peasy) https://www.screwfix.com/p/dremel-952-grinding-stone-3-pack/65026 but then speaking to thw Mini Restoration chap he said...

Re: Off Topic - siezed, rusted, possibly double threaded, sheared bolt extraction advice!
Shaff - get a dremel (cheapo ebay copy in any case) and try to grind out as much of the bolt as you can before have a go with a tap. In fact if you are careful and very patient, you might be able to get enough out to pick the threads of the bolt out without tapping - even if you can get the first bi...

Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge
Funnily enough Dave, I was thinking earlier that I tend to only sleep out for three maybe four nights at a time on a trip, Highland Trail excepted, and I need to up my game. It was partly why I went for the GBduro as that would be 10 nights straight but for various reasons I'm not doing that now.......

Re: Off Topic - siezed, rusted, possibly double threaded, sheared bolt extraction advice!
Jon... This is what led me into thinking I've got a double thread going on. When I was (sensibly) extracting it slowly with the head intact and the breaker bar, I did screw back in a couple of times. Still no joy and the amount of torque required stayed the same. About 250 to 275nm I'd guess! I've ...

Re: Todays ride
A good ride around Loch Rannoch for me today. Alan Goldsmith of Highland Trail fame asked me to check out the track up to the knackered bridge in the forest to see if it was suitable for the route. So I figured on doing the Pitlochry sportive route with a minor variation up the track and back. Again...

Funnily enough I did a similar distance in my local hills and was almost given to think how spring-like it was. Quite soggy under wheel though and no Magnum!

Just about to go and shove 1KG of coffee beans through my new grinder. I'm like a kid with a new toy... 😀 Bob. It's Friday evening, you should be drinking beer, not coffee! It was a kilo bag of the cheapest crap I could find, no way would I want to make anything with the resulting grounds. 🤮 Will b...

Is it not more metal bits to break Simon?voodoo_simon wrote: ↑Sat Mar 16, 2024 10:25 am Thanks for those suggestions.
Maybe the idea of three mounts on the rear isn’t as good as I’m thinking it to be
I'm not getting stuff like that - looks a right faff to unstrap those bags - I'd just use a set of Ortleib front panniers on a normal rack

Hi Pete, yes it's still shut - location is NN 53371 54457 it's easy to avoid just stick to the road and miss the loop round Leagag. If you are heading north to south, climb up a lovely trail from the car park at Carrie - it goes up the north west side of the burn and rejoins the Gallabaich track jus...

Fitted new brakes to the Jones. A bit of a U turn for me as I'm back on Hopes after finally getting fed up of Shimano variable lever / will the brake work or won't it nonsense. They've done alright on the Jones at 7 years old I suppose.... Anyway my local-ish bike shop (singletracks in Kirkcaldy) is...

The last descent was a bit lumpy.... Oh yeah, forgot about that section down the washed out Boltby Bash enduro trail. I think I swore. My brain was about half a mile behind me so I was right into the really rough (aka gnarly) bit before I realised I needed to actually think about where I was going,...

Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.
Just partaken of a pleasant luncheon. Chatted with my pal at the Council about how he's going to spend the £1m we managed to wangle for new cycleways and footpaths around the town, so that was nice. Based on the rates for HS2 I'd estimate that £1M will be enough to construct nearly 12m of new cycle...
