Away from the obvious peak around my home and the smaller peak around my previous home, it does show a small summit near a certain remote railway station

Re: Anyone gone back to sus forks (from rigid)
For my use of suspension forks, I don't see the point in paying for the more expensive/ more adjustable / more complex models. Certainly not for something I'm then bikepacking with. Cheap and (relatively) simple.

Re: Anyone gone back to sus forks (from rigid)
Me. When I built my Pact, I bought both rigid and suspension forks. When I bought my Cube Nutrail, it came with Blutos and I bought some rigid forks for it. It only takes 10 minutes or so to swap over so not exactly a major problem. However, I very rarely ride either with rigid forks. There's just n...

Handily placed for the Cairngorms Loop, just before the Geldie-Feshie watershed, which isn't a place you want to be caught out.

Re: Modifying Drybags
I'm following this thread as I've just acquired an Aeroe rack for my fatbike and am also considering drybags. The Aeroe ones are a bit expensive. I've both a 8L and a 13L Alpkit that seem a decent size and shape but they're currently out of stock (and my OCD would kick in if they didn't match  ...

Group Finish .........tell us more?? Leave when suits but aim for a chip supper in Blair A at ?? hour.......?? More news in a while, but there will be an "event" starting and ending at Feshiebridge. The plan is to time it so that you arrive at Lagganlia in time for a bit of a knees-up (ca...

Re: Lomond Trossachs Loop group start
There will be no Cairngorm Loop spring start in 2023. There will be a June Group Finish though.whitestone wrote: ↑Tue Oct 25, 2022 6:37 am Add me in. Had considered it last year but went south instead.
You might need to ensure you avoid the weekend of the Cairngorm Loop spring start.

Re: Nighttime riding, fear and loathing.
I guess a good place to start is just to get out there for practice and experience, start with familiar routes and build it up from there...obvious really... Late (back) to this thread. I often suggest leaving the bike and heading out for a walk (or even a run) in the dark a few times instead. Get ...

Thanks for the update Shaf. I've not been keeping up with other threads and was wondering what had happened to your plans. Good luck for 2023.

Stalking: it'll be fine. I've walked and ridden the Scottish hills and glens for 50 years. In all that time I've once been asked to do a minor re-route to avoid a stalking party. The HT sticks to known trails and the stalkers don't tend to stalk near them due to the risk of disturbance. Rivers: most...

Re: Cairngorms Loop 300 - September Group Start
Thought I'd best come back to this... A weekend of "mixed" weather resulted in 2 completions from 4 riders. Fastest time was 25h 4m, slowest was 41h 22m. Quite different strategies being employed! I also said I'd take a look at the attrition rate. Totalling all the group rides for which I ...

Hmm. Something up with formatting on the website. The names are listed on the Group Roster page, but only showing when the + symbol is used. I'll have a look.
Currently 4 riders (it was 5 until this morning).

Re: Anyone at GrAviemore this weekend?
As you say, I'm hoping to pop along sometime on Saturday, after my duties in Blair Atholl. The 126km route (Route 6) looks like the "best value" option, with a nice range of scenery and tracks. Of the rest, Route 1 gets my vote, then maybe Route 4. That's quite a bit longer and has both a ...

Cairngorms Loop September '22 Group Start
Just a heads-up that the next group start of the Cairngorms Loop is scheduled for Saturday 17th September.
Start time tba but I'm thinking of making it 8am so that there's an extra hour of daylight for folk to take advantage of on day 1.
Any questions, fire away.

Re: cairngorms loop
Water levels are currently VERY low and the ground is mainly dry. That should make the rivers crossings easy and the Geldi-Feshie should be almost all rideable. Even the Burn of Brown should go easily by the river route rather than through the shrubs. There will be a few areas with high plant growth...
