Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.
Managed to squeeze in a last minute trip yesterday. I rode out from New Mills along the canals and tramway to Chapel, then up and around the Quarries to Peak Forest and up to Rushup. I then dropped down into Roych Clough in search of some shelter from the wind and rain. The night was pretty wet but ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.
Thanks for the comments and advice guys. I think the kit should have been OK, but I did set up the tarp with a very open side so I could look out at the lights in the valley, and it was breezy. Maybe next time I'll use my silshelter so I'm properly enclosed.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.
It's one of the early NeoAir. Not sure if it's an xlite, it's a rectangular one. I wasn't in a frost hollow. I used a small tarp and a bivvy bag. Sleeping bag - ME Classic 500. Should be ok down to -5, I don't think it was any colder than that. I wore a thin down pullover and gilet too! Maybe I'm a ...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.
I used a Thermarest NeoAir. Have just looked it up and it seems to be intended for 3 season use.
Will check out the Synmat range.
Thanks for the advice.

Re: Bivvy a Month 2017.
Bivvy 1/12 on Sat night up near Mount Famine above Hayfield. First bike bivvy (have done some walking ones before), and first solo. Lessons learned: Finding a good spot in the dark is quite difficult and even the slightest slope can be a problem in a very slippery bivvy bag. I need more practice wit...

Re: Mixed news
Sorry to hear that. Can I offer a bit of advice based on a bit of experience of knee troubles... If you can afford, go and see a private physio, but make sure he/she is very good. Get recommendations from serious runners/cyclists etc. One who can deal with biomechanics/postural stuff is best.and wil...

Re: Singlespeed ratios
I've ridden SS for quite a few years now, all over the UK but mostly in the Peak where I live. 32:18 works well on my 29er, can get up most hills on that (though not all). I'm happy to walk the odd climb if necessary to avoid having too low and spinny a gear. Contrary to what some people say, SS is ...

Re: Wind top - what's good?
I've used a cirrus for a couple of years, lots of mtbing and fell running. It's a great piece of kit, light, windproof, much more hardwearing than it looks. The fit is better for me than Montane stuff - longer in the arms and slimmer in the body. Zip is long enough that you can put it on without tak...

Re: North West UK Route Advice
Hi Zog - A nice evening route from Edale would be to head up towards Hollins Cross, around the side of Mam Tor, cross the road at Mam Nick, then Rushup Edge and Roych Clough. You could bivi somewhere down at the bottom of Roych Clough in the valley (nice and sheltered), or head up towards South Head...

Has anyone bought from Borah Gear in the US?
I've just ordered a bivy and tarp from Borah Gear in the US. Am I likely to have to pay import duty/VAT?
