Sold: Singular Swift M -£300 ono
Sold I’m selling a medium Singular Swift as I’m replacing it with another frame. It appears to be one of the earlier ones as the fork fits a max 2.8” tyre. It’s in good condition, some usual chips and scratches but otherwise fine. I’ve ran it only as a singlespeed but the hanger appears straight. I’...

Re: More bothy shenanigans
A close call there Hamish. I’ve read their newsletter and they do seem like the sort of people with whom a night in a bothy would be torturous.

Re: Surly Extraterrestrial 29x2.5 alternatives?
Just bought a couple of those Mezcals - thanks for the link. One will replace the Vee Trax Fatty on my singlespeed, as I’d forgotten just how awful the Fatty is. Man they are awful. They were the first tyres I had on my Krampus and they made me think I had made a terrible mistake. I fitted mine as ...

My friend is basically living for stock alerts for Shimano - stock levels are mad. I’m seriously considering one of the Chinese group sets if I do need bits any time soon.

Re: Anyone have a 'micro camper?'
I’m getting an Elgrand camper in the next couple of months and have gone with a porta potty / cassette toilet thing for that very reason. It’ll rarely get used - and certainly not by me while empty bottles still exist, but it’s nice to have the option, especially when wishing to go somewhere off-grid.

Re: Has anyone ever ridden owt with 36" wheels?
Next question - would anyone buy one if they could? The Slovakian one is £3k for a poor spec, and tyre choice seems limited in general. A niche too far?

Re: Has anyone ever ridden owt with 36" wheels?
Yep, Raceface crank on a 100 mm bb shell with a 197 mm rear doesn't lead to heal strokes in my case and I tend to stand a bit duck footed, yet when I shift my body rearwards I do often feel the seatstay on my calfs. You could probably do something clever with the seat stays because the width only n...

Re: Jones truss fork on another bike ?
Except looking like funky scaffolding, what does a truss fork achieve that any other rigid fork doesn’t (if made to the same dimensions)? You can strap a turbo trainer to them easily, in case such a need were to arise. https://i.imgur.com/vuM6Ts8.jpg Also, they’re really stiff and precise, so perfe...

I picked up an OutDry down jacket, has arrived today, perfect for wet bivvis Who are you lending it to? Oh - I know that no one on this site buys from evil Amazon but you might want to pass this one on to a friend that does before you disown them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Columbia-Outdry-Blitz-Jack...

Re: Jones truss fork on another bike ?
I’ve got a XCAD truss on my fat bike. The frame is based on a Stooge, and the fork a 150mm bolt through design. The original owner had a Ti shim made to space out the bottom of the steerer to allow a lower headset race to be used instead of two uppers. Stiff, rides well too.

Re: Bikepacking bouncers
Orbea make really good riding bikes, a mate has a Rallon, it's a few years old now. It's meant to be an enduro bike? We did a ride to Swanage and back, mostly on the road, he was on that and I took my singlespeed, obvious choices for basically a road century  I'd happily go bikepacking on that...

Re: Living a meagre existence so you dont have to work ?
I think one thing that the lockdown has taught many people is the importance of some things, but that the rest is just ‘stuff’. My spending on the trappings of an office life (buying daily coffees and lunches) has dropped significantly, so I could foresee easily absorbing a few pay cuts for less str...

Re: who rides Ti ?
My ti-aspirations ended after looking into it and the amount of failures (even with Lynsky) LOL. Lynskey have a reputation in the Ti world. Not a good one. Ironically my first Ti frame (which I snapped the chainstay on) got repaired in a Lynskey welder’s garage when I was over in the US. They do go...

Re: Favourite kit from 2020
I bought ScottL’s Orbea Occam on here, and it convinced me that I was wasting my time thinking a rigid bike could truly do it all. A light full suss is so much faster and comfier for certain rides - not to mention much more fun! Special mention goes to the brake pads from China - buying direct from ...

Does it need to be slidey dropouts, or just anything that’ll do SS?
Both Jones and Stooge use EBB, although different formats (Stooge has bolts on the shell itself).

Re: Best dropouts for ss or rohloff ?
Do you need to do anything at all? You’ll need some way of tensioning the chain, so an eccentric BB of some sort. You can get solutions for any shell type.
Get the Rohloff disc brake mount of your choice and you don’t need a specific dropout or torque bar.
