Re: But why?!?
I like the garment in the OP. I don't see a problem with the description either tbf  Definitely the sort of thing I'd see the youngsters in leafy south Manchester wearing. Full disclosure: I own a romper suit of sorts, although it hasn't been worn for a few years and I think the crotch area may...

Re: Shell and BC.
* would be interesting to see if the entire renewable industry has made the profits of Shell "The entire renewables industry" includes the likes of BP, Repsol, Exxon-Mobil etc so I doubt profits are thin on the ground tbh. That's before you get to General Electric, Hitachi, Siemens ...

Re: What powerbank
I've always bought Anker for the past 5 years or so. Not the cheapest but solid. Had a couple of cheaper brands die on me mid-event in the past which isn't great.

1.6kg of food packed just in case. I'll probably lug at least half of that around the full route and not eat it.
Departing Manchester for The Penrhos Arms in about 30 minutes.

Re: CO2 impact of bikepacking travel or an event
an awful lot of Carbon offset schemes seem to involve planting acres of Sitka - sound familiar? Some interesting writing on it in here today https://www.ft.com/content/40f5024b-c3ab-4fdf-b5e5-56d6bd2ed2c4 Plenty of landscapes and locations that will be familiar to many Boners in there. Can probably...

Your gpx files are a lot more "comprehensive" than they used to be a few years ago Stu. Doing something different these days?

Re: CO2 impact of bikepacking travel or an event
I think most "tree planting" schemes these days will be leaning heavily into rewilding. Any areas I've been involved in at work recently seem to have more preparation and oversight than the nearby structure/whatever I've been working. This charity do some good (and interesting) work if tha...

It's pretty thin gruel.
An impressive effort by Stu to devise a route 300km long that passes so few places to buy food.
Corned beef butties it is then.

I'd give Keep Pedalling in Manchester a ring and speak to Shona - she has direct and extensive experience of being tiny and riding a 29er with a seatpack.

Re: Tour of the Cotswolds
Nice pics Bob. Did it last year with Sean, really enjoyed it. Confess I didn't really look at the route a great deal so didn't pick up on whether it was looping back on itself or not, just followed the line on the Garmin and plodded along. Most of the riding was different to what I'm used to - stead...

I didn't ride, spent most of the day sprawled in front of the telly. It was amazing to watch tbf.
I've spent the 24hrs since then being judgemental of how other people chose to spend their time.

Re: Route advice near Elan Valley
It featured on the 2017 BB200 going north-south, it was mildly boggy on the very top but still mostly rideable. Looking at Strava it took me 23 minutes to do the 2.5km "unsurfaced" section and I wasn't hammering it.

Re: Riding on Monday?
I hope this doesn't offend or upset anyone because that's not my intention but I've just read that an estimated 400,000 people will attempt to see the Queen's body with a potential 30 hour waiting time to stand in line. Why? Why would someone do that? I find it hard to believe that for many, it's a...
