Re: Today's Run
I'd already doodled on them - pink route is the route I planned to take, will check it against the GPX file later when Routegadget is sorted. They double sided the map to make it "less confusing" and it would have been near impossible to work off the single sided map. Fascinating, thanks....

Re: Today's Run
Greg, have you got a shot of the course map you could upload? Struggling the visualise 34 controls in 7km of running… — My running has been a bit off pace lately, but after a decent recovery from the BB300 I ran 15km today, which is the farthest I’ve ever run, and at a decent pace (5’15” /km) so I’m...

Similar story, yes. I’d say that was the embryonic thinking that lead to the MC Deck setup. Four years later, the MC Deck has many fans but options for Etrex mounts haven’t advanced to any great extent.

Erm… that thing looks like it needs some guards on it!
Thinking about the resurfacing of Bamford Clough. The dude on the road roller must have had balls of steel…

So, never mind gear ratios, which leaf blower for Bamford Clough?

Re: All the bears.
Perhaps my memory has faded, but I can’t see how / where 2019 route* saves you from much of the horror of 2014 route. The worst bit was surely the 45 min carry along that bridleway west of the A470 (after having ridden down that stream)? * which I did do, Shaf, thanks for reminding me. Anyway, good ...

Re: 3D Printing
Send me/post pictures of what you're talking about, Ian Basically one of these with the male quarter turn interface integrated to it. There’s a design on Shapeways here for one that screws on to the stock battery cover, which is an option I suppose, but integrated seems more reliable. As Bob says, ...

Re: 3D Printing
Thanks, I’ll drop Dave a message.
The neatest way to do it would be to print a new battery cover with the quarter turn interface built onto the bottom. However, drawing such a thing in 3D is totally beyond me.

Has anyone made one of these, or anything similar?

It is an adapter fir mounting a Garmin Etrex to the Garmin quarter turn interface.
Thanks

Re: All the bears.
that type of approach gives us BearyMcBearface as a route name Not necessarily. Climbing route names generally have sensible names attributed to the first person to complete the route. BoatyMcBoatface arose under different circumstances resulting from an Internet vote and people being daft, for a j...

The Balrog?
(In a tenuous one-ring-to-bind-them-all kinda way?)
How about first person to ride it gets to name it? Like climbing routes.

Interesting hub which I’ve not seen before. My SP died recently and the correct flavour of SON is out of stock in the UK when I last checked. Reading the bikepacking.com article here , opinion appears divided on the serviceability of the coil side bearing. But I guess it’s a step up from SP and not ...

Re: All the bears.
Four Corners of Hell sounds about right. Agree clockwise. You’d start in Llanbrynmair and do the yellow first (2015, which was a good vintage), reverse a chunk of this years route and pick up the 2013 and 2017 routes (also very good). 2018 and 2019 I didn’t do, but know the trails, so all good. The ...

Re: BB200
Nice collection Ian, I have restricted my collection to black (5) and orange (3). I missed the very 1st in 2011, then did 2013 the weekend before everyone else (the 1st year route reversed), DNF last year. Almost a regular. We've finished the same number now then. I have 9 badges from 8 rides (the ...

Re: All the bears.
The black line on the map covers three years in two different directions; 2011 and 2012 were anticlockwise, then 2013 was clockwise.

Re: All the bears.
There would be an interesting ride in taking the outer of line of all the BB200's until you meet a route from another year. It might actually be longer than the Big Bear due to the cuts in between the blue and yellow routes in the north and the red/purple and green routes in the south. That said, th...

Re: All the bears.
First time I’ve studied the Big Bear route.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
I see you’ve put in the bridleway east of Penmachno…
One does not simply ride into Mordor.

Re: BB200
Here's my tale from the BB300 I rolled out of the car park at 7:25 into a stiffer wind than I was hoping for and a persistent drizzle that I was sure wasn’t forecast until at least the afternoon. Starting the BB300 in my waterproofs wasn’t part of my plan as such, but it was the same for everyone, s...

One of these was waiting for me when I got back from the BB300; https://uk.hawkeoptics.com/endurance-ed-8x25-monocular.html Wanted something small enough for Bikepacking and walking about for work. Seemed good value for money and gives a clear image from its modest size. My budget was less than half...

Enjoying the write-ups, guys. Interesting to see how the different tales cross over each other, from their different perspectives. Anyway, who was the dude from the IoW, if it wasn't Sean? I rode with a (very quick) first timer called Huw as far as Bucknell, whereupon I needed a sit down for some fo...

And Stu still has about 58 Orange badges to give out, so you lot had better get your acts together for the next few years as giving out 3 per year is going to make Stu very very old by the time he runs out... Maybe Stu should make the 300 compulsory if you've got at least 3 black badges :-bd

TBH, the bloody things were on the radio when I was driving down. I don't know the words (honest guvnor!) but the tune and bits of the chorus had got stuck between the old grey cells. This is why I don’t listen to the radio. I had Running Silent Running Deep by Iron Maiden for most of Saturday even...

Re: New Bike Gear Out And Due Out...
I didn’t think much to the review tbh. Takes out the old gunked up valve, inserts spanking new ones, inflates tyre, is amazed. Great, come back after 12 months of sealant sloshing around your tyres and try it again. Agree with James and Stu about development cost + risk etc affecting the price, but ...
