Re: WRT - Thank you
I'd also like to add my thanks to Stu & Dee for organising a great event (and the weather!). My first WRT and hopefully not my last. Great to meet many of you out on the trail, surprising how the same people keep popping up in various different places despite taking totally different routes. Tha...

Re: Wildcat gear at WRT
by stevemorg » Thu May 01, 2014 3:12 pm Maybe interested in an Ocelot - would be good to see one in the flesh I have one on my bike (and I'd wager there may be more at the start) to see. I'm interested in seeing the bar harnesses in the flesh; I've strapped a bag over the bars before now but have n...

Re: carrying kit for the weekend..
If you've got a pannier on I take it you have a rear rack? If you don't want to use the pannier then remove it and put the two 13L bags on the rear rack, either strapped side by side or on top of each other. The 8L bag could then go on your bars or strapped to your top tube if it's not too wide. I f...

Re: fitting tyres!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are they folding or wire-bead? Bowl of hot water, soften the tyre and retry (if wire, give up!). Personally I always start at the valve but don't know if that makes any difference.

Re: Bikepacking tips
Bit unfashionable but I'm a fan of a lightweight poncho for wet camps, even keeps you dry when taking a dump
Another useful bit of kit if you hear every little noise through the night is a pair of ear plugs.

Re: WRT 2014
The Monks Trod, definitely one for the middle of a dry summer or a permafrost winter!
Yes, I've already noticed the proximity of some of the GRs to Inns, hic...
Hi Dave, yes - hope to see you there. Must admit I look in on your blog or see you in print every now and again, great stuff.

Excellent, thanks for that. It's all about the journey, not just the destination.

Re: WRT 2014
This being my first WRT, what actually happens at the GR points? Is there like a punch or something to mark a card or is there some other nefarious device? Ta

Re: Feeling the cold more as you get older?
I don't really notice much difference day to day or riding as I get older (56) but I have noticed a difference getting through the night. I generally need to insulate more to sleep and the other thing I notice is that I feel pressure points as I (try to) sleep, especially on the hip if I end up lyin...
