Re: New stove for solo adventures
I Have the Brukit and unless your cooking something with bulk IE pasta this kit is a bit big for solo, but it does pack down to a good size (all the gubbins and a small gas can fit inside the mug) and will fit in either a framebag, or strapped to a fork leg using a Anything cage.

most big city's have something similar so worth a look, Glasgow has 3 or 4 of these type of places, though I think BikeStation is the largest.
I have a pile of stuff I keep meaning to send over to them, mainly kids bikes that my sons have out grown.

I'm 5'8" and use the 16" frame, photo below in test bicycle for a overnighter running 29+ Maxxis Chronicles, using the Genesis swoop back bars so the stem is a 90mm if I remember, the seat post has maybe about 1-1.5" left in the tube before it hits the max out line I find it a really ...

Re: Old School of GPS, What's the crack ?
Printed sheets as a back up and when I want to brush up on my skills, I use memory map to print as needed though I've read good things about OS maps own print as required service called "GetaMap", not used it yet as I have the memory map thingy and dedicated GPS, that way the unit isn't a ...

Trailzilla can be quite good as well, as that will also show up walks that can easily be adapted to cycling or at least used as a guide

Re: FS Surly Krampus
My sizing is the opposite being 5'8"
The Longitude is a 16" and the ECR is a medium (I'm right at the upper limit for small and lower limit of a medium for Surly but wanted the bigger frame triangle for a bigger framebag)
PS sorry to Mariner for the slight hijack

I have both the ECR and longitude,
Both cracking bikes, that fit the bill worth trying them out if possible as they have different top tube lengths which give different rides IMHO

Re: GPS signal disruption in NW Scotland
I was always under the impression that it wasn't so much they jammed it but went back to the old way of only making it roughly accurate to civilian GPS receivers were as the military ones had the full software that could process the signal correctly so making them more accurate. this is what used to...

Re: plotting a route
I haven't bought a map for years. £20 per year gets me a subscription to the OS Getamap service where I have access to the whole of the UK at both 1:50k and 1:25k. I plan all my routes on there or on Garmin Basecamp (which uses the maps in my GPS). I can print off mapping for any area I need at whi...

well I found somewhere that has the Paramo trousers, and I think they would be great from late Autum/Winter they would be too much for this time of year, but the same place did have some 3/4 length waterproof shorts, now normally I dismissed this idea as pointless bit like waterproof shorts just why...
