Re: The magic roundabout ...

Great replies folks … looking into moderate new stuff for the Jones… it came with a gear hanger…. I’ve moved 3 times since then… but I think I still have it somewhere in a Thomson seat post bag 🤔🤔🤔

Woods Rat Run

https://bikepacking.com/routes/woods-rat-run/ This looks excellent.... it's now looking likely for a 4 day attempt first week of July, my Wimbledon Avoidance trip What's wild camping like in the Corfe area? Maybe along the Purbeck Way / Brenscombe Down vicinity. I'd be happy in a campsite tbh. Somew...

Re: Electric Socks

What's the sizing like? XL seems to cover my euro size but they are quoting 9" length which is about 3 too little for my large feet. Do they stretch? They seem to fit me ok but I do have size 9-10 feet ... and pretty skinny ankles ... girth of calf might be an issue... there's loads out there....

Jones might not be the best BP bike with the space frame … limited frame bag options & fork mounts Get the Jones truss fork bags, and you won't need a massive frame bag. They are a great design and don't budge. I'd personally spend some money on the Jones, you've already admitted its the best bi...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.

I went to the Penderyn distillery briefly on a trip a couple of years ago and bought a miniature for that night's bivi, liked it enough to buy a bottle next time I saw it on offer. Not tried Irish whiskey though, might go for one of the ones recommended here. I do like bourbon too, Maker's Mark and...

Re: Fat Fighters '24. The year for deflation!

SWMBO fancied a beer last night.... and tbh I was not averse. So I had a lovely Westmalle Dubble (330ml & then a Purple Moose Stout , also 330ml so a little over a pint. Then a dram or two of Paddy's was just about right tbh. 16 days without alcohol was easy. Back on abstinence til next week pro...

Re: Electric Socks

I've got some of those (well, a different brand from amazon but very similar looking) and they're great. Wife and kids got me them for Christmas as my feet are always frozen following a frostbite issue and then Strata Florida. I wore them on this morning's short ride in -6, with just some normal ri...

Electric Socks

I'm fed up with cold feet. They ruin a ride for me. I've tried all sorts of sock combinations. Warming you feet, socks & boots does help on a short ride but over 2 hours the cold creeps in and I get grumpy and miserable. I do wonder if the cleat ( attached to a rather large heat sink) is the roo...

Re: The magic roundabout ...

The Jones sounds like such a lovely classic though, and you could make it 2x12 if you wanted mammoth gear range, i guess it wouldn't be plus at the back though? You're then refreshing it with nice wheels and new drivetrain. The Broken Road (pinion or otherwise) is a decent option for sure, and can ...

Re: The magic roundabout ...

Thanks for the advice .... I don't think saying 29+ tyres are getting harder to find, are draggy (er than a 40mm crosser tyre) and are heavy is in the slightest bit contentious ! ... iirc a Chronicle ( original one still fitted to the front of the Rooster) is 1.2kg which for a bike tyre is heavy. I ...

The magic roundabout ...

Round and round I go. In the market for something special (ish) .... and rare for me ... a new bikepacking bike! I have a 29+ Singular Rooster which I currently use and it's pretty damn good ... but 29+ tyres are limited in choice, definitely draggy, and heavy. I also have a Genesis CDF 10 which I h...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.

I lost my 'taste' for whiskey a couple of years ago, and i'm not sure why. I used to enjoy a very small tipple in the evening every now and then, but it got to the point that it just felt like reflux every time so I stopped. I used to like a Penderyn, Doublewood, Monkey Shoulder...single malts but ...

Re: A wee whisky appreciation thread.

Balvenie Doublewood introduced me to really good whisky. I do like a Talisker. But I currently have drifted West .... slowly working my way through the Irish Whiskey offerings. Some will poo poo them but they're so much easier to drink ... tried Paddy's, Powers, Jameson's (various), Bushmills (vario...

You may be pleased to know I avoided having a beer, and also avoided the bag of Minstrels. I suspect folks may be over thinking the beer thing. I don't have 'toxic friends', tbh I don't really have any 'friends', by choice. I like it that way. Simply don't feel the need to hang around with anyone. I...

Re: All new Flextail Zero air pump

Thanks for the heads up.
Birthday in a couple of weeks , that's one present sorted ! Ordered direct from the states I believe, free shipping ... £36 including a battery, shipped.. code FLEX10 worked.

Edit Typical ... they appear to have a Black Friday sale with 20% off ... code BF20 should work.
