Re: Anyone doing the Twyi Ton?

Yes this weekend as planned. Nothing has changed as far as I am concerned. We just need the routes!

Re: Anyone doing the Twyi Ton?

I'd love to do the Borders 350 instead but without a time machine it isn't going to be possible at this late stage.
So given that Ian's comments above are positive regarding the route I am still up for this. Who else?

I'm sure I entered this but can't recall getting any further info. Can we expect a route soon?

Re: bike use musing

"Even Alan G rides a Spesh Camber"! What do you mean "even"?! I did Highland Trail on the Camber this year and it was a very good choice for me despite weighing 13kg like yours. When you get to my age.....! There were quite a few full sus bikes on the finisher list including 2nd ...

Re: Colorado Trail Race

Hi Mark, Glad to hear that your knees have recovered from the HT hike-a-bike! As I remember from my Denver-Durango 2012 ride, most of the pushing is uphill due to a combination of the gradient and altitude. Slopes that would be easy over here are brutal at 3500m when you are 5 days into the race! Th...

Re: Colorado Trail Race

Is that the "there is no trail behind my house" trail?

After you've done the CTR you will have nightmares about Sargents Mesa.

Re: Colorado Trail Race

It's good to see there is some interest in doing this next year. There were six Brit finishers in 2011, one in 2012 but no starters since then. It's an incredible route but very tough so it is wise to do it in an even year when it runs in the "easy" direction from Denver to Durango. Try to...

Re: Navad 1000

Hi Gian, I'm going to be travelling by train from Nyon by Lac Leman to the start at Romanshorn on Friday. Any money saving tips I should know about?
I'm getting excited now! I see yesterday's Tour of Switzerland stage had to be cut short due to bad weather. I fear the HT550 weather is relocating!

Re: Navad 1000

I am doing this as are a few mates, Ben Eardley (a rookie), Dave Buckden (vet of HT550), also Stefan Maertens and Tom Sap (HT vets) from Belgium. I pointed out to the organizer that drafting shouldn't be allowed and he agreed so has changed the rule on that. Sorry drafters! The bag drop remains but ...

Re: Highland Trail 2015

I'll be at the By the Way campground/hostel from Friday afternoon and at the Real Food Cafe in the evening.
Does anyone know if the Real Food Cafe will be open early for breakfast on Saturday like last year? Their website says 11a.m. but that may be winter hours.

Re: Highland Trail 2015

No need to climb over, the bit on the right is open to pedestrians. You won't get through if you are fat though!
The high fence in Glen Ling is about 50m off route but if you follow the GPX track and not the most obvious track on the ground you'll arrive at the gate that opens.

Re: Highland Trail 2015

The river crossing will be more interesting than normal if it's a wet week. I had a report from a rider who was in Fisherfield about a week ago and he couldn't get to Shenavall bothy because the small stream by the cottage at Achneigie was impassable! I was up in the Highlands last August when the t...

Re: Highland Trail 2015

I contacted Scott at Trackleaders and apparently there was a glitch in the code. It should be updating properly now. I have moved from Poolewe to Swindon so I think it is!
If you find any more issues let me know.

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Your SPOT tracker has to have a service plan that includes tracking. This would have cost you 112 euros per year for a Gen3 device. If you haven't got a service plan with tracking you are not going to show up on Trackleaders!

Re: Highland Trail 2015

The gate has a padlock and chain but let's have no vandalism please! There are also two rocks either side of the gate that would prevent it opening far enough to get your bike through but they are good to stand on to gain 6 inches of height. I've found the easiest way to get your bike over high fenc...

Re: West Country Way (Devon C2C) GPX track?

If anyone would like a GPX track of "PMT" you can PM me. Around 95% is a ridden track from the weekend. The "improvements" are untested but hopefully better than the bit they replaced. I can't take credit for this route as you will see from the lack of hike-a-bike! Most of the tr...

Re: West Country Way (Devon C2C) GPX track?

This evening I'll have a GPX track for you of what we rode this weekend with some tweaks to improve it. We can't call it the WCW as it isn't the same route but a variation upon that. I was going to call it "PMT", (Plymouth-Minehead-Taunton).

Re: West Country Way (Devon C2C) GPX track?

I rode this at the weekend with a couple of friends and I totally agree with Cornish Neil, it is a great route. I can only think the reason it is not more popular is the difficulty in finding out about it. We followed a mixture of the GPX posted above by dlovett and one my friend put together from t...

Re: Highland Trail 2015

Follow the GPX track near Loch Long and you won't have to scale the fence! There are plenty of other places I can think of that might be tricky with a tandem though. That final rocky carry up into Coire Lair will be interesting.

Thanks for the link to the WCW. The route I have is mostly the same. I will let you know how it is after the weekend. From Minehead we will go over the Quantocks to Taunton railway station.
