Re: Hammock in the garden
We've got fruit trees so a bit easier, have even bivvied - obviously doesn't count for BAM. As ever with hammocks Shug Emery on YouTube will have you covered. Here's his channel - https://www.youtube.com/@shugemery . Tensa poles are generally regarded as the best but I'm not sure if there's a UK dis...

Re: The next Eclipse
There was a partial eclipse here in the UK about eight years ago that was impressive enough. Definitely one of those bucket list items :-bd Loved this quote on the BBC site the other day: But Prof Don Pollacco, from the department of physics at the University of Warwick who travelled to Texas to vie...

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Thanks Shaf, good advice. I've been avoiding tubeless for years and got away with it, but four punctures in as many months decided me. Presumably you have to give the bike a run/tyres a spin regularly? Not really. If the bike's been stood a while then the sealant will settle at the bottom of the ty...

Re: Aeroe rear rack thoughts
Cath has one fitted to her Stooge. Not had it long so no long term review thoughts. Looks sturdy. I think the frame comes with one bag holder so you need to get a second one if you’re going to have one both sides. Also looks a bit of a faff to swap between top mount and side mount. Certainly not a t...

Re: packable fleece?
Another Griffon user here. Not ultra warm in the way that a lightweight down jacket is but fine nethertheless. Fleece is somewhat resistant to being compressed just by the core material and how it's made. Most quality polyester fleece is made by just a couple of companies so you'll find that there's...

Never heard of him but, seems a decent chap and a nice review too :-bd Where the hell is he riding? Absolutely stunning scenery and the road looks vaguely exciting He's an ex BBC local news presenter (Newcastle IIRC, I do remember seeing him on Nationwide way back in the day) and from other videos ...

You don't say what sort of terrain you wish to ride - looking at the Trek 920 I'd say more towards the gravel, forest road, farm tracks type of terrain rather than anything uber-technical. Yay/nay? Given that the Trek is sub 13kg *with a pannier rack* I'd say that's not too shabby, my Genesis Croix ...

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
The notion that panniers are Taboo is strange coming from the opening post. To me its gone full circle with Tailfin Ortlieb and OMM latest offerings. Never got the high up weight on most bikepacking setups. How many spend day after day on singletrack weaving in-between the trees? Its perfect for th...

Riding a bike? Check
Enjoying themselves? Check
Not causing trouble for other cyclists? Check
I think that covers it.

Re: Is this 'bikepacking'?
It's nowt to do with the type of luggage you use or where you stay but a mindset IMO. I saw a post on FB the other day with the usual soft luggage v panniers type stuff and one chap said, " why would you not use panniers, you can fit loads more in them" ... this bloke does not have a bike...

Reg will be pleased to know that I’ve finally finished the wall I was building when we had our ride around the South Lakes. Not that I have been working on it every day - the weather this winter has seen to that (I only managed two days in December for instance) Just another several kilometres to go 🤣

Re: Monks trod - wtf
Given the "state" of the RoW as often mentioned on here, it does seem somewhat odd to spend so much money on improving it to any useful/usable state. Actually to do it to a usable state is likely to cost a lot more than a million. Reminds me a bit of Derbyshire Council's repairing of Rushu...

Update In the end I got a 42t Microshift cassette and a Shimano GRX 2x111 (RX810) derailleur off of the CRC close down sale. Fitted them today and shifting is nice and smooth. Although the maximum cassette for that mech is meant to be up to 40t, the 42t is no problem and didn't require a goatlink o...

Crikey that were a close hobbling thing! I think she's the first Brit to finish it - the early years on the spreadsheet don't have nationality so can't be sure.
Largest ever number of finishers despite “That new section is brutal. You are a bad man.”

Looks like there are seven runners(?) out on the last lap. First time that there's been this many left at this stage. The seventh made it out onto the final lap with just three minutes to spare!

We are hoping there is no intervention from the Tennessee state legislature, as we currently have seven runners in transition

£100 an hour for skilled labour We live in very different worlds if you think £100 an hour is a reasonable hourly wage for any human beimg to earn.
