Lightweight spare 'shoes'
Years ago I found some 'Bothy Boots' - like really thin wellies for pulling over sock in camp/bothy/hut but they are sadly no longer I think. I've been looking for something similar that is light, rolls up and is 'stuffable' that would pull over socks for camp and could be used for river crossings (...

Re: Trans Cambrian Way
Had a week booked off a two weeks ago with a friend from Sheffield. He'd been snowed out of a week long trip to Braemar the week before (Munro bagging in Scotland in whiteouts on the summits) so the weather that week was a bit of a contrast - blue sky and forecast set for the week. We left North Wal...

Nice one Stu - I'd not seen BPD stuff before - the Ute Solo looks very like the Lunar Solo.... lots of Cuben 'tartiness' to get tempted by there! Will drop John a mail. Cheers Mark

Trans Cambrian Way
The last time the sun shone we did the Trans Cambrian Way over a couple of very enjoyable days. I forgot a bit of the bar mount for the camera so it's a bit hand held and it looks like we were riding through and earthquake on the back of the Elan Valley :). Hope it doesn't detract from the short vid...

Dan, We did the train on Wednesday lunchtime from Mach 1205 (midweek timetable) - into Knighton about 1550 - riding for about 1630... a few hours that evening. Finished in mach on Friday afternoon. Taxi listed by IMBA here too: http://imba.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/IMBATransCambrianWay.pdf Not used ...

Wow... good effort for even stepping out of the front door in this weather  Sounds like you've been in the epicenter of the worst weather over the last few days and survived!! Welcome back to the land of dry socks and central heating! Love to see some pictures of the ride and any epic river c...

Just received one of these, a Sea to Summit Ultra-Sil Day Pack... http://www.seatosummit.com/products/display/86 Brilliant little thing & only 70 grams on my scales. Could really have done with this at the weekend so I wasn't carrying supplies in a carrier bag on my handlebars for the few miles...

B*gger - no stock in Germany (due to issues with supply from SMD Lunar in the US) and he's refund my money!
Any ideas on alternatives to this - thinking of a Tarptent Notch (or Contrail) - any other alternatives out there?
Stu - if you ever fall out of love with yours let me know!
Cheers, Mark

Re: TCW - Taxi back to Knighton
Hi Dan, We did the train a couple of weeks ago - but we left a van in Mach (the guy in the station recommended we park right outside the ticket office) and everything was fine. We paid a single, off peak fare (with the bikes on the day; no booking) for about £30 each. Hassle free really although the...

Hi all, If the weather stays like last week make sure you pack some neck covering, factor 50 sun block and some Nuun tablets.... just back from a few days on the TCW and we were drinking 11 litres of water a day and still getting dehydrated... suffering the after effects still! A sleeping bag liner ...

Cheers Stu - I'm going to wait a little longer for the SMD Lunar.... worth the wait for the size/weight ratio. What's the weight of the Lair you have there with the inner and poles? Is that similar to the Akto with the mesh inner I have which must ne around the 1.3kg mark all in?

Re: Anyone use a tent while bikepacking?
Yep - use a Laser Large for two of us (as per WRT thing last year) and an Akto with a mesh inner for solos in the summer. Both have been slung under the bars with poles in frame bag OK. Not keen on getting bitten by the winged teeth (really bad reactions for some reason) so I like a bit of bug netti...

No midges, you can squeeze 2 in, weighs 650g or just under 800g ready to pitch, you can sit up properly, you can cook properly and it's not made of cheese ... really, what's not to like? The only thing not to like so far (yet to get my hands on it) is this has been in such high demand in the US tha...

I rode a couple of tracks/BOATs on M'n'B that suggests some decent pre-event research might be needed to keep team morale high... they looked fine on a map but on the ground....... some of the brideways were ace though!

DNF, GoPro here https://vimeo.com/32699863 and used on last WRT. Mostly bar mounted using the GoPro Mount with some old inner tube as bar wrap. Currently playing around with some MYOG mounts to get some more varied shots (without using a dedicated helmet mount). Not cheap but good quality results ev...

Re: Welsh Ride Thing 2012
Neil, If you can plan a route on your paper maps and then get that 'traced' into www.bikehike.co.uk (or similar) to create a GPX file of your route (maybe day by day/section by section) I'd be happy to load that into my version of Memory Map (1:50K) and print your route out to a set of A4 PDFs to em...
