I like the look of this on their website. Perfect for a British summer under a tarp:

Re: Carbon Poles
Problem of the poles sorted - zpacks do a light carbon pole that weighs naff all. Also, quest outfitters do the lightweight easton poles in a DIY style.
Titanium Goat - Cool, they do ti foil too.
Hmmm, goes off stroking chin .... where's that caldera clone template?

Carbon Poles
I need to source a carbon pole 44-47" in length to form the vertical support on a tarp. It is preferable that it can be broken down into two sections to fit into a frame bag. I've had a look at various options from the kiting fraternity, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

I was a student at the time - funds wouldn't stretch to anything so exotic. Also, my mate doesn't drink at all.Fantasticmrmatt wrote:Or Whiskey

Most trips are memorable. Had a really wet and memorable trip with flatfishy back in Feb. He'll likely remember that one for a long time - that lump behind my wheel is flatfishy in his bivi bag under a collapsed tarp: http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5092/5442145251_ac6374c141.jpg Winter bivvy was goo...

Hunka here too, but would like to get something a bit lighter/ smaller like the Terra Nova Moonlight or the Rab equivalent.

Re: Do people really get scared?
What is out there really too be scared of?? Many years ago I camped with a friend up in beside Llyn Idwal, high up in Snowdonia. We walked in at dusk and set up the tent in the fading light, cooked some tea and sat chatting outside beside the lake. We'd walked in under a cloudless sky and the stars...

Re: London to Wales......
Sounds like a lot of canal to Bristol. Perhaps there isn't much choice? Apparently, the canal in Brecon goes all the way to Cwmbran and I think you can now cycle all the way. I've always got bored of it by Talybont where I've peeled off and headed into the hills :? Alternatives: you could look at th...

No. Probably. Yes*.Has anyone tried one? Would I be wasting my time? Is it all a bit too Ray Mears?
* Ray would probably make his own rod out of hazel rods and line from platted horse hair. He would also make a boat to fish out of. Which birch-bark canoe for bikepacking?

I've got a Snow Peak one that fits that description, comes with a small pan/lid on top and graduations inside.

Good choice. In the absence of trees, you can pitch it like this, which I find quite easy and very effective:Integral Designs Siltarp 1 Tarp

I suppose I would, yes. It's a nice piece of kit to have in the collection - particularly on a autumn/ winter bivi. I'm not going to rush out and buy one now because there are other things on my wish list. Ian p.s. if you want to copy this over to the reviews page Stu, please go ahead. The images ar...

Re: Anybody fancy lending me a revelate seat bag? Blame Wild
Thanks, but I've got some actually - bought from the same place as you I think. I'm part way through making another clone, but it's quite a bit more difficult to work than the 0.15mm stuff. Not entirely sure it's going to work, as I'm using it on a narrow diameter pan. I also found that it doesn't f...

Aidan - 7kg?! Wow... You did the TD with a balloon bed, too? On food - a fairly significant proportion of my gear weight for the WRT was food. Leaving it out in favour of picking it up along the way depends very much on your route though. I am leaning increasingly towards a no-stove system and hopin...
