Re: BeSpoked 2024 - Manchester
I got chatting with Craig Calfee at Bespoked in Bristol a few years ago. He was talking about a cunning technique for drilling out branches of Douglas Fir which apparently has an even better strength to weight ratio than bamboo.

I might get out this weekend; will see what the weather does. Got my GRs and it's looking good. Might even work in a ford.

Re: What you done t' your bike today
Gears wouldn't shift fully. After seeing if something was stuck between the cable and the harness straps, I realised it was the bag being too wide. I had that exact problem and could not figure out what the problem was. Fortunately the left shifter is redundant and the bag just about fits with care...

Newby was there to climb Mir Samir (19880 feet) with his Diplomatic Service buddy Hugh Carless (who only died in 2011). On the way out they met with Wilfred Thesiger who declared them to be a couple of pansies for using sleeping mats.

By the end of your post I was searching for lightweight frisbee's I hadn't twigged that thenorthwind's aerobie superd[redacted by compression sack] is a disc and not a ring. Looks ideal in fact. As for whittling one...I ended up in A&E on a Friday night (not recommended) after trying to make a ...

I hope not! Got a tarp and pole combo ready to go but was all bivvy-bag-only last year. Been practising my knots and everything.

Second the Swiss Army Knife. Most used is probably the scissors, but given you can use one to whittle a spoon, with time I reckon a frisbee isn't unachievable.

A frisbee. Take one on every cub and scout camp for fanning the fire, sitting on wet grass, eating off, keeping headtorch/watch/phone together in the tent, keeping a book dry and many other uses. Mine is yellow and a proper weight for actually playing frisbee with.

👍 Wikipedia has at least one suggestion: Ancient folklore and historical documentation suggests that the Ochils once were inhabited by the Picts, or at least that a few Pictish settlements existed in the Ochil Hills. Castle Craig, a ruined ancient fort above the village of Mill Glen destroyed by ind...
