Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Is that the subway at the back of Edinburgh park? I vaguely recall trying to get into that years ago when I lived in South gyle but it was firmly barriered off.... Nope, but will keep that in mind. This was under the slip road where the A68 peels off the bypass. Underpass kipping - another original...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024

Couple of busy weekends coming up so snuck out last night for an easy one half an hour from home that was guaranteed to be dry, and flat. https://i.postimg.cc/J7ZntMgC/PXL-20240309-224518925-NIGHT.jpg Found a way under the bypass last year and noted at the time how quiet it was. There was a buzzing ...

Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

While we're taking quotes out of context. Selfishly speaking I'd rather this particular place is left alone as a remote wilderness. I like the idea of it as mid-ride pub. As for nuclear power stations, I was confused to find the Scottish Green Party were against them when I joined. Then I learned th...

https://bearbonesbikepacking.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=24352 popping this here to have it all in one place. Again, thanks to John Lazarus for putting it together (and commiserations for his mechanicals), to Shaf for setting it all up this year, and apologies to fatbikephil for not including a ref...

Re: Alternative Winter Ride Event Thing - Pentlands edition

Cheers. You can't see them in the photo but there were a couple of broken and abandoned panniers which I was investigating. Had headphones in so didn't hear these guys approaching and probably entirely innocent. Still no idea where they went though as there's a slight corner and then a long straight...

Ooh, tempting in that case. QR too. Let me think about it and I might make you an offer, unless someone else can use them.

Thanks for the offer Phil. I've got a straight steerer carbon fork the now; it was the mounts I was coveting. My bodged solution seems to be working OK.

Re: Alternative Winter Ride Event Thing - Pentlands edition

It was a cheeky ask right enough, and thanks to Lazarus for humouring me. The plan was to stop in for breakfast on the way home last Sunday (they're open for 10) but I like this way better. Nearly got mugged on the way home just now mind. https://i.postimg.cc/c1fsdYcs/PXL-20240302-204326895.jpg Stop...

Re: Tyvek groundsheet - how long do they last?

I'll keep repairing the tyvek as and when but I like the look of your spinnaker one Reg. What did you do, just order 2x1m? I quite fancy the gold. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/325034144398?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=ldbJ_3WRQ8q&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=AOH8sI9PQZW&am...

Re: Tyvek groundsheet - how long do they last?

For the record, the rip was about 8 inches and the gaffa tape I tried wasn't sticky enough to stick, but found a roll of aged spinnaker tape at the Scout Hut and that's done it.

@fieldoffice heating up some stroopwafel for breakfast.

Love this little warm breakfast option :-bd
I spotted that! Noted for future mornings.

Tonight still counts for February. The extra day almost makes up for making it a five week month.

How did you get it to write r-i-g?

A-w-e-s-o-m-e gets rendered as 'vaguely exciting' which is vaguely exciting.

How many others?

Tyvek groundsheet - how long do they last?

Ripped a hole in mine last night. Generally folded twice, then lengthwise, then rolled tightly. Used maybe 15 nights.

Cheap so no worries replacing it, just wondering if that's normal?

Also, can it be recycled? Internet says Yes, but how?

Alternative Winter Ride Event Thing - Pentlands edition

I was meaning to get out mid-afternoon but having knocked a big hole in the bedroom wall I found myself building bookshelves to fill it. Got away just as it was turning dark and, after stopping briefly to pick up breakfast, hit the quiet road that wafts you south between the A701 and 702. Always tur...
