Re: Find yourself a Fogou.

After reading this post I started to consider the possibility of a bivvy in one of the "Potato caves" on Dartmoor. I've often thought about it, but never seriously investigated any of them to qauge how good/bad they would be. This is Leather Tor potato cave near Burrator reservoir, whilst ...

Re: Find yourself a Fogou.

There are quite a lot of man made holes like these on Dartmoor as well as Cornwall. From a bivvy perspective they often suffer from the "well known by locals" point of veiw. The likes of us see a great bivvy spot for a trip out whereas locals see them as drinking dens, sh@#%&ing spots ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

December 12/12 done. Wasn't really feeling up for a big trip out for this month to be honest, usual Winter cold and sniffles as well as a very lethargic feeling set of legs which is unusual for me. Anyway decided on a trip up the old railway line to some possible spots I've recced on my way through ...

Re: How to insert pictures

Sorry only just noticed your comment!!! That was a pic from earlier this year of an experimental bike I put together. A basic and old Carrera frame resprayed and built up as a 1×9 chunky gravel type creation with some flared drops. Just strapped an army surplus sleep system in it's compression sack ...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

November 11/12 done. Not often I get out in a forest like area, so with visions of beautiful pictures of pine forests sprawling over hillsides as far as the eye can see off I went..... It was cold, steep, damp and dark in reality, so much like any other bivvy to be honest. Headed to an area I knew f...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

October 10/12 done. Kept it local this month as been a bit busy to do anything that required a day or 2 of cycling, and wanted an excuse to get back out to Penlee battery for another nose around! Left after tea last night for a brief 45 min peddle out along Whitsand Bay to Cawsand were I took the tr...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Good stuff. What's that big bucket next to your stove? Portable mini-bath perhaps?  That'll be the windshield for the stove! Although the pics don't show it , there is actually a small reservoir and leat system in amongst the industrial remains along with several uncapped mine sh...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Sep 9/12 done. Was planning a decent trip out across Dartmoor this month, unfortunately the only night suitable to fit in around my Wife's shift patterns happened to be the day after the recent storm. https://i.imgur.com/DkkSvit.jpeg With a very windy and wet night forecast I opted for a more famili...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

August 8/12 done, South Coast to North Coast. Something I've wanted to tick of the bucket list for a while now, a trip up to the source of the River Tamar. For those who aren't aware the River Tamar for the most part is the boundary between Cornwall and England. As it was a mostly on road trip I too...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

July 7/12 Done. Had all sorts of trips out planned for this month, before life, work and the weather conspired against me! So a last minute "load up the bike and make it up as you go along" sort of trip. Rode out locally and tried a few spots I knew about, but had discounted previously due...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

6/12 June done. A bit last minute, but turned out to be the best one I've done in a long time! Casually browsing my phone at breaktime on Thursday morning and the weather forecast jumped out at me.... Good conditions overnight going into Friday and then turning not so nice for the weekend. Quickly b...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

May 5/12 done, hopefully my more traditional touring bicycle is allowed? It's not my usual bikepacking style set up, but I've put together a more road orientated touring set up for a few trips planned later this year. It was a bivvy and a bike though! Headed to the edge of Bodmin Moor last night, up...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

4/12 April ticked off the list. A great ride on Dartmoor out along the old railway to Princetown and then back via eylesbarrow tin mine (remains of) to Gutter Tor and then back down the railway path to Plymouth. Found an old bridge to shelter under as the forecast was damp, although it turned out to...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

3/12 done, finally got back up on the moor although waited till the last minute until there was a clear night forecast! Left home just after 4pm Sunday and headed over the ferry into England and onwards up onto the moor to a spot I've recced before. Arrived about 8 ish, giving time to get gear set u...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

2/12 completed, although not quite as planned. Had a good spot lined up on Dartmoor for this month (within the new camping map recently updated), however my Wife decided to dislocate and break her right shoulder on Thursday meaning another fairly local spot was needed. Out to Penlee Point between Ca...

Re: Bivvy a month 2023.

Long time forum lurker, thought I'd get some more trips in this year. Normally a fair weather bikepacker/camper, but thought BAM would give me the incentive to get out more! Left it till the end of Jan to decide mind you so just a quick local trip out to Whitsand Bay in Cornwall. Checked out a good ...
