Re: Brakes; mechanical or hydraulic?
I've fitted / used both and both work well enough. Like James I'm a fan of BB7 and they've never caused me any grief beyond a frozen cable on very cold occasions. Cheap Shimano hydro have caused me grief with micro-leaks but maybe that's a problem of the past? I've never had any issues with Hope and...

adventure playgrounds Perhaps caused more broken wrists and lost teeth than anything else  Which begs the question, if you’re following a GPX, especially if a GPX someone else has made for you, is it an adventure in the pure sense of adventure? A good point Jack and certainly valid when you t...

Re: Missing the point?
But I'm really not sure why anyone would be bothered by this? If it encourages people to get onto bikes and out into the countryside then surely that's a good thing. There's already enough gatekeeping, elitism, tribalism and snobbery in cycling which discourages the average person from bothering. I...

WRT lost and found
Not much this year but I do have ...
1/ A pair of sunglasses with red / orange lenses and black frames.
2/ A lovely water bottle with what I think are rainbows on.
Get in touch if you'd like either back.

I don't think you're the first to think of that Bill, so I'm fairly sure it'd work.

As we're doing thank yous ... due to the efforts of all involved the Air Ambulance is better off to the tune of £2848 this morning. Riders - who continue to turn up even after 16 years. No riders, then it doesn't happen. Sponsors - new and old. Thank you for providing me with the opportunity to take...

Re: Missing the point?
They believed a good adventure should be “difficult without being agonising, dangerous without being suicidal, exotic without being obscure and awkward without being impossible.” Is riding a bike on a reasonably smooth gravel road for a couple of hours really any of those things for 95% of the popu...

Re: Missing the point?
I think there's a real demand for easy off road (i.e. traffic free) trails that you could ride on what continental Europeans would call a trekking bike and what we used to call a hybrid. Many people just don't want to mix with the ever-increasing traffic on the roads, but aren't adrenaline-pumped t...

I really don't think anyone including myself is saying it's a bad thing but that the marketing bollox really ought to stop. Personally, I tend to feel that if not, then before too long many people will have little idea about what's real and what's fantasy

Missing the point?
Although a bit of me knows I shouldn't mention this, there's another part of me that simply can't resist ... sorry  I spotted that Coed Y Brenin have recently opened 100km of new tracks and obviously that is a good thing if it helps get bums on saddles. From what I can tell these tracks are ma...

Re: Recommend me a quilt
I've got a Cumulus 150 and 350 ... both very good and I believe the newer ones are wider which is much better. A custom Enlightened winter quilt which is also lovely but probably far too much for general UK conditions. ... and a Sierra Designs Nitro 800 which I find perfect for most of the year. It'...

The only issue with a Sawyer or similar can be filling the bag - weirdly, if you cut the bottom of the bag off, things are far easier.

Goldilocks - first completion.
Congratulations to Ben Hudson on being the first person to complete Goldilocks. It took him around 6 days and 8 hours and I can't imagine it was done beneath blue skies
Sorry, forgot to mention that he was riding SS, so probably a reasonable amount of walking involved me thinks.
