Re: Thorn Sterling (Rohloff) + extra forks & more!

A beautiful bike, I wish it was in my size as I would love one of these but sadly we no longer make them, if you have not already done it you might want to post this in the Thorn forums http://www.thorncyclesforum.co.uk/ as there are collectors out there. Thanks for the kind comments. I did post it...

Re: Waterproof shorts & trousers?

I bought some Madison DTE softshell shorts for winter. Waterproof and hopefully warm. I've got a pair of walking trousers that are very similar and am somewhat impressed. I also tend to just wear walking trousers or Tracksters. Neither of which are even water resistant! Which sort are you impressed...

Re: Waterproof shorts & trousers?

that “boil-in-the bag”, effect round your nethers? I think Mike used the phrase "swamping" a few times in Spain for that phenomenom. It's always stuck with me. Alpinestars do waterproof shorts with a breathable panel bit at the front which aids circulation around the sweetbreads. Tougher ...

Re: Waterproof shorts & trousers?

I take it you have proper mudguards? Something like the Mudhugger on the rear will keep the vast majority of crap off you. https://i.imgur.com/kmnlfiw.jpg https://i.imgur.com/vFuGNwg.jpg Defence in depth and all that. Yes indeed! I have Crud Guards on the Ramin 3+ and full length SKS on the Thorn S...

Waterproof shorts & trousers?

With the prospect of a long wet autumn, my thoughts have turned to avoiding soggy-arse syndrome! I haven’t worn waterproof trousers or shorts on a bike for donkey’s years. Have they improved at all, or do you still get that “boil-in-the bag”, effect round your nethers? Any recommendations? Thanks ag...

Re: SPDs or flats?

I seemed to have sparked a bit of a debate! Thanks for all the replies. My only concerns, when I’ve used flats in the past, is sliding off or being bounced off the pedals! But that’s probably poor footwear or technique? (Any tips gratefully received). I think I’ll give them another go and see what h...

Brooks saddles

I’ve used a Brooks B17 saddle on just about every bike I’ve had over the last 40 years (apart from a a brief spell being a weight-weeny in the early ‘90s, when I used a Ti Flite). I was thinking it may not be the best choice for a bikepacking bike, with big plus tyres spraying it with muddy water. D...

SPDs or flats?

I’ve continuously used SPD pedals since the early ‘90s but fancied a change.
Just wondering what your preferred weapon if choice is and what’s your favourite shoe/pedal combo.
Cheers! 🙂👍

Tubeless or not tubeless?

I’m guessing that this has been debated in the past, but it’s not putting me off dredging it up again 😉 Main question: Is going tubeless really worth the hassle? Secondary question: What’s the best way of doing it? I’m running 27.5” plus i45 WTB Scraper rims, with 2.8” WTB Trail blazer (rear) & ...

Re: Calling all Pinnacle Ramin 3+ owners

I'm just waiting for a set of Stooge Moto bars for it and i think it'll be perfect. In fact I'm looking to slim down the bikes from 5 to 2 and I think it'll be one that remains. A couple of years ago I was looking to change the wheels to narrower ones on my fat bike, but it turned out to be cheaper...

Re: Calling all Pinnacle Ramin 3+ owners

Yes I've got one nicknamed the Tangerine Tractor. I've done a lot of miles on it. Current guise is 29+ up front and 27.5+ out back. Sort of a semi-fat mullet. I love the fact i can run it singlespeed without a tensioner. I nearly sold it a while back after entering a 'race' in December and struggli...

Oh yeah, I bought it ... so it must be good  I don't really know how well the Ramin+ sold but I do wonder whether it would / could have sold more had it being more expensive. Re: Calling all Pinnacle Ramin 3+ owners

Not really. I am about to buy it some new brakes as I think the calipers have developed the Shimano 'micro-leak' problem but I consider myself to be to blame there as I haven't used the bike for some time and I've always had the problem after a lay-up. Otherwise, it's still great. I hadn’t realised...
