Re: Yay, it's cheery Friday.

I'm off to Glencoe in the campervan.
Fireside pints, hill walking and sledging down the ski slopes.

Am in a good mood!

Re: Sleep system configurations

I dunno what it is about those Alpkit Cloud Cover quilts, but they are sub standard. You're always cold.
Sell it and put the money towards a better one, or a down sleeping bag

Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024

Have just arranged a long weekend of trail centre riding/staying in a cottage in Dumfries and Galloway with a few pals in March.
A good motivation to work on my fitness!

Free: Shimano hood covers for Ultegra 6800 brifters (rim brake, not disk)

Ordered these by mistake: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/brake-levers/shimano-ultegra-st6800-bracket-covers-black-y00e98080/ They don't fit my hydraulic disk brake ones - they are for the mechanical shifting, rim brake ones. Tried fitting to the bike so they're not brand new, but obviously didn't fit s...

Re: Happy New Year, and plans for 2024

No real plans. Need to work on fitness, so try to get out more. Having moved to a dull west lothian town my zest for life has dropped off considerably. Thinking of quitting work in April. Took a contracting gig that has been extended and extended - it will be 3 years come April. Get the summer off, ...

Re: All day comfortable, do-it-all waterproof trousers?

Thanks for all the replies.

Sadly, no closer to choosing something!

It's weird as I have a pair of Morvelo bib tights which are totally waterproof and a DHB long sleeved top as well. They're comfy and stretchy.
Not sure why there aren't baggier versions using whatever materials they use

Re: Which Exposure light?

I use a Strava on the bars. I road commute in the dark sometimes and it's good for that.

If trail riding I add a Joystick on my helmet. Works fine for me

Re: All day comfortable, do-it-all waterproof trousers?

Hmm, already have over trousers but was hoping there is something that would do it all. Disappointing about those paramo ones, they seemed like they could be good. A pal has one of their jackets which is very nice and works well in bad conditions. Anyone have experience of the Sprayway All Day Rain ...

All day comfortable, do-it-all waterproof trousers?

I'm trying to find a new pair of trousers. I'd like it if they could handle hillwalking and cycling in heavy rain as well as be something you can just wear as your day to day trousers. I guess that means that they have a soft lining and aren't 'plasticky'. I have a pair of Madison Zenith Men's 4-Sea...

From a certain point of view, it could be said I ate too much cheese.

But that's not a world I want to live in.

Re: Recommend me a cordless combi drill

Ryobi are fine, especially if you have the batteries already. Otherwise Lidl or Aldi, Worx (also sold as Bauker or Wesco) work well and are cheap for batteries and tools. I've had good experience with Einhell as well. Often worth paying a little extra for brushless motors on them if that's an option.

For the first time in ages I have a day off and nothing I have to do or anywhere I have to be.
I plan to potter around the garage doing jobs, eat mince pies and maybe buy a new bike.

Re: Fat slick tyre

Beware of the gravelking slicks. They are very fragile and weep sealant through many pinprick holes.
Would recommend the + ones.

G-One Speeds are great tyres as are the Vittoria Terrenos.

Re: Pls keep an eye on your carbon forks/frames/bars!

I feel that this kind of incident is one of those ones that is so without warning and also so statistically unlikely that it can't be mitigated against other than by not riding a bike. But then, if you were to do that then you wouldn't live life at all - people die loading the dishwasher or tripping...

Re: The great British train scandal

We were looking to get a train between Tarbert (Head of Loch Lomond one) and Crianlarich - 3 of us and bikes. Scotrail app said all the bike spaces were booked, as did their call centre. Got the train anyway, and there were 2 bikes on the train - had space for about 20. Conductor said he's never see...

Re: Contents / bike cover for many, many bikes..

I took a specific cycle policy with Barclays.
You set a value for the most expensive bike and pay based on that. All less expensive bikes are covered.

Was about £70 for £5k.

Much cheaper than any other way of doing it

Garmin Edge Explore works well for me. Maps and navigation are fine, can sync with phone and services such as Komoot, Strava or Trailforks to download routes or uploads rides.

Re: What you done t' your bike today

After my last off road ride on my drop bar bike I realised that it needed some TLC. The bar tape was absolutely destroyed for one thing. https://i.postimg.cc/RVX0CYd5/PXL-20231103-153924517.jpg I figured if I was redoing the tape I should try out some new flared bars - some Salsa Cowbells from the c...
