Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge
I'll plop the WRT in as my 2 night attempt. Got vague ideas for the 6, but then unsure of intermediates.

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Summary of attitude I was planning on treating this like “not a race” and being as efficient as possible. While not being the first tough ride I was doing, it was the first tough event, and looking back there are several easy gains to be had in that shift from a touring attitude to race(even though ...

Re: Rigs of the 2024....TOR Divide
Cheers for the kudos Valerio, I'm in the process of writing up how this all went in a satisfactory way. Agree with pretty much what Dave said re the plastic, one additional point I would add is that my reusable coffee cup allowed me to get a takeaway brew to sup while riding along, cafés were not lo...

I am respect the n=1 attitude with a capable gravel bike.
Been baking goods up today for a plastic free time and it definitely adds to the experience. Massively looking forward to it Valerio!

Goose egg for scale. Used a gas stove, which is well cooking on gas.

I find that a pan set fits nicely at the end of a straight dry bag on the front harness. I've got a restrap 11L one, but a bags a bag really?
Frying pan, lid, and big pan all jammed into the (heaviest) lightest bike on the WRT so must be light enough?

Re: Zip Theory
Wouldn't call myself an expert, but sounds like the desert camping could slowly abrade the floor, making it pourous? Regarding the zip, my understanding is that once metal is bent beyond it's elastic limit it's kinda done for. Any repairs would be short lived. Looking at the design, should be distin...

Re: Mad quilt idea, perhaps!
Although as a long term review of this system; it actually creates more faff than it solved. Getting in and out of the skirt was more faff than quickly popping out of a quilt. Fun project still. That square however is fantastic. Fits in any pocket, quickly adds considerable warmth by stuffing it dow...

Sort of yes to all that. It's quite hard to describe or relate to similar things. I'd recommend just getting your hands on it, to understand it a bit better.
That process sounds good. Presume you're aware of the classic sewing tips and tricks?

How exciting adding a new Brother to the family! Really like this idea of yours. Another option, on a weird sort of shoe string, is the insulation they use in Hello Fresh boxes? You would still need to provide the outer/liner fabric, but equally, you would get to pick the outer and liner fabric. Unl...

Re: Bivvy a Month 2024
I failed on my first trip to Gwyn Fawr bothy too. Rode like 95% of the distance from home. Was unable to pick up food in Hay on Wye as it was the literature festival and totally packed with articulate pissheads. Ended up bonking, my light running out, giving up on finding the bothy. Slept on the pat...

Re: Eid pressie prize! (Prize updated so gravel strokers don't feel intimidated against)
Eid Mubarak Shaf :-bd At college there is about 20 kids in, out of 2000. 20 out of 2000  That's a massive ratio. I'm gonna guess your in London somewhere today Ben. Birmingham, we don't quite have 99% students celebrating Eid. It is a lot and we have a critical mass of Muslims so even studen...

Eid Mubarak Shaf :-bd I don't know the answer, and will leave it til this evening to research. Predict that it will be words to the effect of "I am the messenger of God, you are the profit Mohammed to bring the word of Allah to the world." Then Mohammed would eventually respond "Thank...

Shimano RT82 Touring SPD size 45
Got this classic touring shoe available £15 posted.
Excellent condition as it simply doesn't fit me so I've tried it on a couple of times then stored it.

Managed my April despite rail strikes. Rode an impressive distance from Birmingham on traffic free trails (mainly lots of canals). Did you know we have more canals than Venice?! https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AP1GczM3li88qFzf8epXLmJRqYIKcHIYsiWXRoolBP-NRRA444GCreXelhQpG1LuXcLlpb4HBDpL4w6mJuXC1...

Ok, I'm going to do a two sentence summary of the ride, then muse about this style of riding for however long feels appropriate. I also made some logistical notes for myself, but realise that these could be a useful resource? I am no expert in this at all, but feel a shared mistake can still be lear...

Re: Supertramp 2024: A Challenge
I like this idea, and agree with that simplicity of getting "into the flow" To complicate things, I have started tacking bikepacking trips onto the ends of other, less bikey trips. An example is Easter. 3 nights in a bivi/bothy, then 4 days in a mountaineering hut. These days will not be s...
