Re: Another Garmin (Oregon) question
Now that, is a hugely helpful answer, thanks. Automotive is a profile I've not bothered with upto now, but living in London and doing day rides mostly on road at the mo as all the bridleways are shitfests it'll probably keep me happy for day rides. It's the further afield rides that turn by turn wou...

Re: Another Garmin (Oregon) question
Had the same problem. All I can get is a big solid line to follow, and to keep the screen turned on. True I can get the thing to beep to warn of a turn, but with a cycling wind and a hat I can't hear it. What I was hoping for was the same "Light's on - big FO arrow pointing next direction"...

Re: HELP needed to plan a route and transfer to gps
I tend to go straight to RidewithGPS as I find the layout and tools better than bikehike, even on the free version. I'll always have something else open though to check rights of way against OS - usually OS Maps. Being able to zoom in to 1:25K is really useful and for that alone OS maps is worth pay...

Did they test shorter cranks at the same time? Might be the same difference.
*edit* Ahem - this just in from a quick test - I habitually place my foot with the ball forwards of the axle. It feels way better on a flat pedal. You're grandmas safe for now! :)

Re: Shoes n boots for flats
I'm inclined to think that this wrong pedal position stuff is a load of bollox. Reason being the basic dynamics of how we run. We've spent long enough in an upright position now that our muscles and skeletal features are pretty well dialled in for maximum power transfer through the ball of the foot....

Burley are a good make - as are Chariot, but probably higher prices and less availability. Make sure you get one with at least 20" tyres - some will have smaller, few if any will have larger. As for tyres - 20" Big Apples might be a good bet, at least they do them in a pretty wide size. Pl...

Finally a bike related photo to share. Nothing remotely peak or mountain-like around here in east Kent mind.... gotta enjoy what you got! The towers of Reculver on Boxing Day. Had a filthy puncture in the middle of the woods an hour after this. In the rain, as it got dark. Grrr. :-bd https://...

Re: 2017 goals and achievements
A freaking amazing year for me. To be fair I was starting from the utter pits of despair at needing a hip replaced at 52 which got did in Feb. It's been upwards from there, to the point I'm now way above 100% of what I was prior to surgery, 80% of where I want my strength to be. Next year is going t...

Apparently (I read it somewhere) about 30% of men are colourblind to some extent. In order to makes things easy for the colourblind folks, it's good to use different tones of colour for showing 'important things'. A light blue against a darker red for instance.

Oli - what setup are you using? Strobes? Surprised at that macro shot it's good. Cheers Greg. It's an Oly EM1 mk1 in a Nauticam housing plus strobes. Macro is with Pana-Leica 45mm, which renders really nicely with butter smooth bokeh but isnt as tack sharp as the Oly 60m. The fish soup is Oly 8mm w...

Ok - mixing it up again with some more UW photos - this time from Sabah province in northern Borneo a few weeks ago. Oh - and if you dont 'get' some of Greg's you might be a bit lost with some of these (work harder you graphically illiterate lout! :) ) Tiny freaking hairy shrimp. Like 4mm. The vis w...

Sorry to say this now, but 24h rim on 36h hub works fine, especially for a front wheel.

Re: Bike gps which one for a long week in the saddle
Got an Garmin 810 but battery life is pretty shocking and would prefer disposable ones ideally another Garmin that would fit on my mounts. Rich Can you say a little about how you're using your 810? What settings and sensors are on? Also what do you think of as non-shocking? Just so we've an idea of...

Re: Bikepacking with Severe Obstructive Slaap Apnea
It might depend where the obstruction occurs. A quick google shows a number of nostril dilators, and clearly these are meant for snoring rather than anything deeper. But you say 'severe' - which makes me think it's more likely to be more laryngeal than nasal - in which case, is surgery not an option...

:) With all respect to the above poster, the spare wheel hack will also show you which direction you need to bend the hanger to get it straight. As will looking at the alignment of the upper jockey wheel on the mech itself once mounted though not to anything like the same degree of accuracy. But how...

There's a number of railcards that may be worth having. Have a google. We recently got one for 2 named travellers (got to travel together) which saves 30% I think. It's already paid for itself with one trip London to Telford to go and play on the Long Mynd.

An item of electrical wonderousness fell into my sweaty hands this morning, an AC charger for my old and no longer dusty Mini-disc player (MZ-R90). Not quite vinyl quality sound but not far off - and it fits in a pocket, and no bugger can annoy me by calling me on it. Proper bass, clear top end, dep...

Detracts from the image where it is located. Same here. I find my eye is drawn to a certain part of a photo, and in this case it's to logo, to the detriment of the shot. This is mainly because of the strong diagonal line leading towards it which leads the eye there. For such shots a horizontal vers...

Tubes? Valve-cores? Whatever happened to packing out your tyres with sticks and dead grass? I'm only half joking having needed to ride 15 miles like that. It wasnt fast, but it got me home, saved the rim, and certainly compatible with TLS. Actually I'd ripped a massive hole in the tyre which I hadnt...

Do you want the convenience on long sweaty rides of a front bag, yet the convenience of a rucksack for those more technical sections?
Then you need......a front rack with a rucksack strapped to it.
