Re: Alpkit Socks x5 pairs - Large.
Hi, I think the socks are a mixture of cotton & synthetic fabrics. I've looked on Alpkit's website & they're called "Socks for Walking, Running & Cycling" but there's no information on fabric content. Same goes for an internet search. Regards Russell.

Sota Hard Anodized Aluminium Cook Set
These Hard Anodized Aluminium Pots came with a Sota stove I purchased recently. I use titanium pots so have no use for them. One pot has a capacity of 500ml (12cm wide x 6cm high) 78 grams and the other has a capacity of 1000ml (12cm wide x 10cm high) 120 grams. A 250 gram gas cartridge can be store...

Re: Which rucksack ?
I use a Karrimor Kimm Sac or a Camelbak Kudos 18. I don't fully load these, but like the extra capacity in case of an emergency. I always put detachable items (gps, lights etc) in my rucksack when away from the bike, in populated areas.

Bike Locks
What do fellow members use to secure their bikes whilst bikepacking? I'm not too worried about security whilst camping / bivvying,, as I'm usually out of sight, but when I pop into a store in a town to pick up food etc, what should I use? Think lightweight here please.

Re: Kids being wrapped in cotton wool
I'm very lucky in the fact that my late father was a Scoutmaster during my early years. From the age of 5, he would take me camping with the local scout troop and I think this has left me with a deep sense of self reliance. I love going out no matter what the weather, with no fear. I've always retur...

Re: Thumb twiddling
I find it difficult to get comfortable reading, whilst in a sleeping bag. So I listen to the radio (radio 4), if no or bad reception I listen to podcasts that I've stored on my phone or the latest thing, Audio books that I've downloaded from the internet to my phone. If it's raining though, I remove...

Re: Backpacks and bar harnesses
I once did a tour with all my gear in a Karrimor Kimm Sac 32 litres, but had to cut it short due to backside problems, which I put down to the extra weight! I've since been using two rear panniers, 8 litres each, made by Alpkit & mated to Karrimor Pannier mounts - quick release types with "...
