Re: Sorry to ask - what pedals?

DMR V6 on the gravel/adventure bike. Despite "only" having plastic pins, I've never found myself needing more grip when riding in my usual 5-10s.
Nukeproof electrons on the MTB. The extra grip definitely kicks in on the kind of terrain that would stop the gravel bike being fun.

Re: TDR 2018

Slightly OT, but do carbon Jones loops absorb more vibration than the ali ones? Is there a benefit other that the weight saving? Very OT, and possibly snake oil, but in an effort to emulate Spank's Vibrocore technology, a friend of mine filled his bars with expanding foam. He reckons it works a tre...

Re: Scott frame warranty

My mistake, wasn't a Crudguard, it was a Zefal Swan.

Anyway, plastic clamped round carbon, ended badly. A bit odd, when you consider that carbon seatposts are pretty much always clamped into a tube of some sort. Odd that it cracked at the mudguard rather than the seatclamp...

I can't find the f@#&ing hole!!!

In my sleeping mat that is, stop sniggering at the back... Alpkit Numo mat, it deflates just past the point of not supporting my weight over about 3 hours or so. I did find one tiny hole (barely any bubbling under water), and seem to have successfully patched it, but the mat still deflates. I've che...

Re: New bike time

I had a CdA, 2015 model I think. Good bike, really opened up my riding options compared to the 23c Bob Jackson it replaced. I've since replaced it with a Cotic Escapade, and (without wishing to sound like a 'steel is real' zealot) I much prefer the ride feel of the steel frame. I know older CdF fram...

Re: Footpaths

I ride in the Peak District, usually out of peak (ha!) times.
I ride paths, footpaths, bridleways, roads.
I always try to be friendly and considerate to all other people. This has included walkers, rangers, other cyclists, horse riders.
I've never found myself in any conflict with others.

Badger Divide?
200 miles from Inverness to Glasgow. Mostly off road. Not super technical riding. Heading east down the Corrieyairack Pass was the roughest bit, we were on 'adventure' bikes and handled it fine.

Re: Wanted - seatpack, 13 litre or similar

The Alpkit bags are OK, but aren't as structurally stiff/rigid as more 'standalone' seatpacks (it's designed as an inner bag really). I've got decent results by: 1) Make sure the narrow end (where it attaches to the seatposts) is really tightly packed. Use small items like socks, pants etc to really...

Re: Simple drop bar conversion

I don't think there are any road STIs that combine triple and hydraulic brakes, either from Shimano or SRAM. For Shimano, I *think* that things might be further complicated by differing cable pull ratios between road and MTB groups, even at the same 'speed' level. You'd need to check that out too (w...

Re: Lost? When...

I think the last time I was lost was when I no longer appeared to be on the footpath I was meant to be following. This would probably be less noteworthy had the footpath in question not been the Pennine Way where it crosses Bleaklow. I suspect that's about as close to the rambling equivalent of a mo...
