Re: Christmas plans
Son is home from Uni [via Snowboarding in Alps], partner off with his kids n family so nice chilled day  . Run with dog in the morning, cook n eat stupid amounts of food in afternoon, then probably carry on patching up living room n plastering in a bid to re-decorate over the school holidays. R...

Re: Advice and guidance reqd. - water carrying and frame bag
Interesting ideas, thanks everyone. I am surprised not many have mentioned Stem cells https://www.alpkit.com/products/stem-cell-xl. I have made a couple which I find great, altho will be making some more variations soon. For UK that is ok, but if on holiday [somewhere warm and sunny] we have needed ...

Northern winter bivi - big thank you everyone !
Home and unpacked, if not cleaned up. Just wanted to say a huge thanks to Chew and everyone for organising, coming along, waiting for me, scraping me up after crashing and generally being great company. The 'show and tell' of gear and tales of trips and adventures was really inspiring. Thanks again ...

Re: First Aid kit for bike packing
Just done my Outdoor First Aid course for work, Forest School teacher, it was run by local mountain rescue guys and very practical. I carry a bandage, pads, duct tape, baby wipes, gloves, maybe a space blanket if not got bivi stuff, and pain killers. Oh and head torch n sweeties. I agree, we are usu...

Re: Spring time route suggestion
Highly highly recommend the Transandalucia Trail. We flew into Malaga and out of Gibraltar, rode between, lovely wild camping, pretty villages, great route info.
I ride a Surly Ogre, fully rigid 29er, and it was fine, few rough sections, but all rideable.
Enjoy.

Re: Flying with bikepacking gear
What do tourers (!) do if they are flying into one airport and taking off from another? Can see that being a problem with the bike in the way back? We flew into Malaga, bikes in cardboard boxes from LBS and out of Gibraltar. Original plan was to get boxes from a shop there, all lined up by email et...

Re: Kendal mountain film fest 2016
WE went to KMF, general film pass on Saturday, what a disappointment  I have been getting the film pass for years, and was not at all happy with the way they organised the films this year, no more Biking, Climbing, Culture and Environment, instead Hope, Chance, Joy and other flaky categories, i...

I need more grannies
Can anyone help? I ride a Surly Ogre (rigid 29er) which I built with componentry off my old Trek. The intention is to gradually change out components as they wear, or I can afford it. After a section on Transandalucia I am wondering about more grannies, ie lower gears. Partner seems to always have h...

Re: Gpx on phone or buy a garmin thingy ?
Managed to get paper maps from incredibly helpful people at The Map Shop, I'm happy.
Bf has a new ap and maps downloaded on his phone, he's happy.
So the question remains, what is difference between fancy phone gps and a garmin type thing ? Better signal ? Functionality? Curious.....

Gpx on phone or buy a garmin thingy ?
All I am off to Spain in a week, ridingpart of Transandalucia route, Malaga to Gibralta. We are struggling to find good detailed paper maps and considering using the gpx files. Boyfriend wants to go on an ap on his phone, I am nervous about this and would feel better with a 'proper' gps device, no i...
