Re: Jobs that should be straightforward ...

Slightly esoteric but I when i was in Holland I had a bit of trouble fitting some tubeless tyres. I went around every garage and bike shop in The Hague trying to find a compressor with no luck. Took me about 5 hours... In the end I realised that every station has one where they hire out the bikes :o...

Having delicious tasting snacks to gorge on is surely worth the weight no?

(This could be why I'm not a good climber...)

Re: Best/modt economical/robust dynamo hub

Well OK Chew, but if you have a garmin that doesnt take AA and ride with your phone on for whatever reason then that system falls down a bit

Buy a new garmin and new camera and you wont get many packs of batteries with the change from a dynamo hub wheel

Re: Best/modt economical/robust dynamo hub

Dynamo hubs are needed for longer trips arent they? Much after 3 days you'll be running out of phone, garmin, usb light and big back up charger Me and a mate struggled to keep stuff charged up on a 2 week jolly with a car without a 3 pin plug and paying for 'leccy. If you re really riding all day an...

I havent tried one but it sounds like it's 6 and 2 three's really. Go for what ever brand marketing speaks to you best (or in my case, as I suspect it is for most, which one I could get the cheapest at the time)

Re: Exped SynMat HL M / AirMat HL M... Thoughts?

I ve an airmat and am looking to Upgrade to an insulated mat as I ve found it a bit nippy on occasions with a quilt. So I'd say just go straight for the Symat.

If you can find one in stock anywhere in the UK, you'll be doing better than I though

Sleeping bag tear repair

Hi Guys I was at a party, sleeping in tents, and I managed to put a big tear in my cumulus quilt. I managed to salvage most of the down but does it need to go back to a special place for repair or just a local seamstress..? The baffles are all in place, its just a tear. Thanks David (note to self, i...

Re: Stove Recommendations

I'm a fan of MSR and have, amongst others, a pocket rocket. With characteristic Dutch bluntness, the bloke in the shop said to me, there are cheaper and there are lighter but this is what you want if you want to throw a s**tload of heat at a pot...which i would agree with

Re: RAB 'Ascent' waterproof-ness?

Interesting, its the only bivi i ve ever used so i ve not had anything to compare with.

I'm short but the wrong side of 100kg and use an Exped mat inside the bag with a cumulus quilt an i just thought that was normal...

Re: RAB 'Ascent' waterproof-ness?

Yeah, I used mine in unseasonable snow back at Easter in NL. It was great.

Bear in mind that sleeping in the rain in a bivi with no tarp is particularly sucky, but you won't be wet.

Hmmm, well I'm on the other side of the current O&G coin and have just been forced to move back home post end of contract (though luckily the Dutch Social Security system is fairly generous for a few months). Working for a consultancy meant that i didnt earn a great deal either, what I had was d...

How do you have them set up? Do you have the base of the drops close to flat or at an angle? I'm struggling to get the transition from drops to hoods flat (which apparently should be easy and is a requirement for me) without having the drops angled down quite disconcertingly...
