Re: Too Early for a YD300 thread?
That's Magic! - Cheers I've ridden most of the route from Buckden to Ribblehead and Dent including Cam High Road I've topped 3000m climbing in a day twice in the last 4 weeks as well as riding 4 100km+ rides. I'm recovering faster than ever so I think I'm as physically prepared as I'm going to be, I...

Too Early for a YD300 thread?
Morning All I hope everyone is well, is anyone else doing the YD300 and can you offer a newbie any tips or tricks of the trade? I've been riding my bike lots over big hills, map reading and accruing the kit I'll likely need along the way. I'm still at a bit of a loss regarding stuff like food and wa...

Re lube: If you can get hold of one of the little bottles / plastic fishes that hold the soy in a sushi meal you can fill it with lube and keep it in the bottom of your toolkit.

Re: Knots for tarps
A highwaymans hitch may be useful when putting up a line to throw the tarp over (sorry unsure of correct terminology)
Secure but really easy to take down.

Re: New to the forum - hi
Hello Dave I'm also new to the forum, periodically frequent STW and am from the North East of England. I'm here mainly to try and figure out what I've got myself into as I'm signed up for the Yorkshire Dales 300 (beer made me do it). My 5 yo likes the sounds of wild camping so I figured I better lea...

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1442/25051166304_b1567c7d81.jpg Something like this with bits of motorbike fork boot? I might need to find another place to stash my tarp to make the drybag smaller and increase clearance on the front tyre. It's roughly equivalent to the clearance of the fork crown so...

It's actually pushed up underneath the brake lines and cables which is the position I found put the least pressure on them

MYOG Bar Harness (with pictures)
I thought I'd have a go at making my own bar harness to hold my sleeping bag and tarpaulin. https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1503/25583166501_90609252bb.jpg 1000D cordura and a few assorted bits and bobs I thought I might need https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1514/25675878035_a386d93796.jpg Roughing out...

Re: Let's have a chat about knee pain.
I'd second the opinion that the pain in your knee probably doesn't originate there, there'll be something that's fastened to it somewhere along the line causing the issue. I'd recommend Core Advantage byTom Danielson and Allison Westfahl linky Danielson is a guffhead and should be flatly ignored (Im...

Re: Hello!
Yeah...a bit of tape helps if you catch it *before* the deluge :) Alas, I found the hole(s) much later. That was the end of that particular cuben dry bag, as the weight of the tape to repair it would've been close to the weight of the bag itself. Needless to say, I don't use cuben for my primary ha...

Re: Hello!
I used to think this way until I got a hole in my harness bag one very wet evening and found my sleeping bag wet. Just my 2p. I put a wrap or two of gaffer tape around my pump handle [stop sniggering] weighs next to nowt and bails me out of everything from ripped sidewalls to annoying rattly bits, ...

Re: Hello!
Wow. Thanks for all the advice, it's good to know that, broadly speaking, I'm barking up the right tree.
I've already got the templates made for the frame bags, I've just got to pursuade the Mrs to let me have a go on her sewing machine now

I'm planning to try and carry a small tarp / basha along with sleeping bag and mat. Does anyone know of any reason that I shouldn't roll the mat and bag up in the tarp and fasten it to my handlebars with webbing straps? Sounds good in principle but consider what happens on the morning of day 2 shou...

Hello!
Hi all, I thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. Northern 30 something male, been riding most of my life on and off road but I've never done bikepacking, with that in mind I have got myself an entry to a little ride around Yorkshire in June. I've been reading through the forum and there looks to ...
