Re: 650b+ Experiment

How common is tearing the sidewall like that anyway? I've been running 3" and 2.4" tyres on 45mm rims for a few thousand km and no problems yet. Do I need to start worrying?

Back from a week in the glorious Italian sunshine to the grisly Mancunian rain, meaning I didn't really have the motivation to try the two lovely carbon tent poles that have arrived. Cheers Stu.

Maybe not enough graffiti on the tarmac for it to be Cragg Vale.

I'm guessing the B3212.

Colour for me too btw.

Re: Really hated this winter... (Spanish trail suggestions!)

I've ridden (road) Majorca) in the winter. Weather can be hit and miss - when storms hit you certainly know about it.

A bunch of mates ride mtb there every November and have nothing but praise for it. I think they base themselves out of Pollenca.

Re: Talk to me about Cheshire

I worked just outside Frodsham all last year and had the bike in the back of the car for most nights through the summer. On-road it's genuinely great round there - endless country lanes and rolling b-roads pretty much devoid of traffic. Off-road though I struggled to find much worthwhile that could ...

Re: The Perfect Bike Packing Bike

I was thinking a rigid 29 er like the Charge Cooker 1 midi but I haven't ridden a 29 er or a midi or seen any reviews in the context of BP so may be completely unsuitable. I bought a Charge Cooker hi frame off ebay for £100. Chucked a Deore groupo and a pair of Duallys on it and it's served me very...

I run 2.4 Ardents and 2.35 Nobby Nics on Duallys. Both great imo. Shouldn't be any problems with the Ikon.

Re: Windproofs ???

I find the OMM Sonic smock does a great job of keeping the wind out. It's got a fairly long front zip and I can just about pull the sleeves up comfortably, so I find there's just enough venting without having to stop and remove it. For me, part of the appeal of a windshirt is the low weight / bulk ...

Velo Orange Casey's Crazy Bars for the ti build. Nice.

Just ordered a shiny VO stem and some shiny alloy headset spacers to really tart the look up. :-bd

Re: Wide 29" tyre - what do you reckon?

2.6" Nobby Nic might be a decent shout for the right balance between cutting through and big volume Stu.

I've run the 2.35" on a Dually on the front for about 18 months and can't fault it. Maybe the 2.4" Ardent for something less nobbly.

There's a sweet spot where it will still completely grip, but if you go 1mm past then it won't grip at all. Just measured - it's 13mm.

Re: Dress my loops

Finally, the bars are narrower than my 710 Jones bend bars so I'm thinking of stretching them with a set of Controltech Terminators. Anyone got experience of those, or a UK source? I use Ergons on my loops and have them stuck out past the end of the bars by about 15mm to steal a bit of extra width....

Re: How far north can I get on the PBW now?

I've ridden everything between Chee Dale and Hebden over the last few weeks and the only bit that's currently shitty and not good riding is the Rapes Highway just south of Readycon Dean Reservoir. That's short and easily avoidable though. The riding's good over that section. :-bd I think Rushup to H...

I have one of these which I've never actually used for its intended purpose. Apparently works pretty well though for small, frequent quantities.
