Re: FS - puking gnome Trail Racer LTR 29 fork
Oh John, on the day after I decide I'm going to buy a pair of Trail Racers, you post up a pair with a steerer tube cut too short.

Re: 4-season sleeping bags
Cheers all. After reading loads of threads I've followed the advice of Bob and Stu from this one and ordered a Cumulus 250 (to layer with my 2-season bag) from http://www.outdoorline.sk . Delivery 2 - 5 days, wonder if I'll be sleeping warmer next weekend? I've also found out that I've been using my...

Re: Sunday night recommend me a gadget hread
I understand a camp axe is an essential accessory for this year's bold WRT riders.
I'll be supplementing mine with a camp belt and a camp pair of slacks.

Re: 4-season sleeping bags
Cheers all, some really good info there. That's a hell of a post Bob. :-bd My current set up is fairly summer-orientated - I've got a Sea to Summit Spark ii and a NeoAir XLite, both bought a few years ago for summer hiking, plus a Borah bivvy. For colder nights I'll sleep in baselayers/thermals, plu...

4-season sleeping bags
Evening Boners
what's current go-to for a 4-season sleeping bag? Or maybe a 3 season that will cover a British winter.
Alpkit Pipedream 600 looks to fit the bill bit is sold out until June. Any others that are (hopefully) readily available?

Re: Pass through charging. Grrrrr.......
I bought a couple of cheapy 8400mah batteries out of b&m for £7 each which pass through charge from my PC to my garmin ok so would assume they will work with a dyno as well. Details on the bargain alert thread These are very good tbf. Ran Garmin and phone off one on last weekend's bivvy (about ...

I'll be there too, on a rigid Ti mtb with Caseys Crazy bars, probably a lot closer to the back then the front. I'll keep an eye out for you Scud.

Re: Todays ride
..was a ripped off Peaks 200 to get some miles in the legs ahead of the Dirty Reiver. Set off from Hadfield yesterday afternoon, all the way round the bottom loop, tea and a pint at The Wheatsheaf in Baslow then over the tops and a bivvy at Stanage Edge. Cracked on on round to Mam Tor today then jus...

Re: Advice on cooking equipment
Soon to be embarking on my first multi day trip and am still undecided on the cooking situation. Very easy to overthink and overdo it in my experience. When I first started touring I had the same idea as you - a stove and dried meals for mornings and evenings, but I just ended up carrying them roun...

Re: Current Android phone recommendations
I'll throw another vote in for the Samsung Galaxy S5. A few models out of date now but still use mine for bikepacking - properly waterproof, you can carry a spare battery, decent screen size for using Viewranger/mapping app of your choice, quite sturdy to boot. Decent camera too actually. You can pr...

Shotgun House up above Coed Y Brenin was a lifesaver after I saw you at the pub on the winter event Steve. Based on that alone I'm voting "fair game"

Re: Drum roll ... WRT GR.
maybe I just shouldn't bother with the climbing calculation and just assume 10-12kph and be done with it. I'd say that would be best. :-bd You'll never be that far from a main road if you need to cover some ground a bit quicker. Plus you might end up "wasting" a good few hours in a pub, a...

Understand your decision Gairy. Congrats on all your other developments! A self-build is high on my wish list so I'll be interested to hear how you get on. I think we briefly discussed before that I'm doing (an as yet undecided version of) the route starting in Les Houches on July 15th. Are you happ...

Re: R.I.P. Mike Hall
Around tea-time on the Church or Chapel event I was having a pretty miserable time - cold and soaking wet having made a few bad choices including two completely unnecessary river crossings - and not enjoying myself at all. Mike came riding past with a cheery hello, and I think noticing that I wasn't...

Re: Yorkshire Dales 200
Cheers chaps.
I'll be doing it on a rigid mtb so I've no great concerns. The other lad I'm riding with will be on a CX with 40c Nanos. tbf to him he's ridden some rough-ish stuff in the Peaks on it so he might be OK.

Anyone able to offer any advice on the type pf terrain/surface on the route? Thinking of doing an abridged version in a couple of weeks as a warm up for the Dirty Reiver - is it comfortably rideable on a CX?

I'd be happy with that.
I'm taking the bike in a Wiggle/CTC poly bag so am totally flexible on what happens at the Spanish end.

Re: Garmin touring
I use an 810. Can't fault it really. As those people ^ said you need to consider how you'll charge it, as you'd be lucky to get two days' use out of a full battery. If you're touring and stopping in B&B's every night then no worries. If you're bivvying then you'll need a dynamo hub and suitable ...

Re: Musings on a Spanish Coast to Coast
I think I'd prefer the train. I'm expecting a fairy drastic shift in temperature from what I'll have been used to in Manchester so a lighter first day's riding for acclimatisation might be wise. Is there a direct train from Casteldelfells to Tarragona? All I could see on Google was taking the train ...
