Re: Tour Divide 2016

I appear to have accidentally asked my line manager for permission and been told no problem. See you in Banff. Brill! :-bd ITT or GD? I shall be flying with WestJet (nope, never heard of 'em either!) They are super cheap though aren't they! :) I'm just having to wait until the new year for w...

OK, so I've just come across this site: http://www.pilom.com/BicycleElectronics/DynamoCircuits.htm Looks like the answer is yes totally possible, and someone's already designed some better circuits than I have to do it :D Looks like I'm component buying and soldering over christmas, updates once I d...

DIY Dynamo Light?

Has anyone made one? I have been thinking of lighting for when I get a dynamo, and was a trifle surprised at the cost of some of the dynamo lights. When CNC aluminium CREE lights can be had for £10-20, and a rectifier/SuperCap circuit can be made for cheap(so cheap you get them in windup LED torches...

The eTrex 30 was in the amazon.co.uk lightning deals, and the way they seem to be working might pop up again.

Ohh, and a half bag too

This whole quilt thing really intrigues me, I almost always sleep with my sleeping bag unzipped, more like a quilt(unless it's bitterly cold)

Re: UK terrain like the Tour Divide?

Really good point on the camping front Stu. I definitely want to try something different to camp in. I know I can never expect a 1 person tent to be spacious, but the way the tent is it was very close to my face and it was a bit claustrophobic. So I'm really interested to try out bivvying or a diffe...

Re: UK terrain like the Tour Divide?

Thanks for all the answers guys! Kielder looks vaguely exciting, it's been a long time since I've been to the borders so it could make a really lovely trip :) I noticed the Dirty Reiver 200 topic, I'll have to look into it. I go to spin classes 3-4 times a week which are short and intense, and I'm b...

UK terrain like the Tour Divide?

So, I'm beginning to seriously look at doing TD, and I would quite like to get out and do some riding on as similar terrain as I can before hand. However I live in Warwickshire so long steep mountains, and forest trails really aren't that easy to find :) I went to the Peak District and did some of t...

I'm gonna aim for 2017 :D
I've only been in this job for 6 months, and asking for a month off this soon might be a little hard.
And more time to get used to bikepacking would probably be a good idea ;)

Mine fits inside the 2Lyellowstone dry sack that I got here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0037CF6A2
at least I think it was the 2L one :/ I was pretty sure it was, but now I'm not so certain, it definitely wasn't the big one! :)

Re: Down jacket for under £100

Might be worth looking in a local ski shop about now, about a month ago I wandered round mine, and picked up a Berghaus Hydroloft one for £80 off retail :D
I think it's last year's range, but that doesn't really matter :)

Re: GPS device shopping - some many questions...

I got my Etrex 30x from http://www.trekkinn.com/
It was by far the cheapest, but it took about 4 days longer than their estimated shipping time.

Which wouldn't normally have been a problem, but that was actually after the weekend's riding I wanted it for ;)

Pennine Brideway South

Well, I'm back from my first ride! :D It went really well, I rode from Middleton Top to Summit https://www.strava.com/activities/372414302 I started Sunday afternoon with the idea that I could have an easy start, before getting into it on Monday. The first section went really fast as I barrelled alo...

Re: Newbie Hello! :)

Cheers, that's good to know.
I'm going to have a test fitting of everything this evening, so I'll find something to look after the dropper mech.

I'm going to aim for a bit overloaded and a bit more comfortable this time, and once I've done it try the lighter approach and things like biving :)
