Re: Bike Insurance Suggestions?

:-bd
I'm not so bothered about bike insurance where I am and with the bike's I have.

More interested in the 3rd party as a preference to being sued or finding the cash if the worst happened where I might be responsible for something or, more likely, if my young son scraped a car or something.

Re: Bike Insurance Suggestions?

Just out of interest does any one have 3rd party insurance? I don't but I have wondered about it.

Re: 2016 Plans

Main plans are: Skye to Aberdeen off road C2C NC500 (likely a variation of it) Some of the Forfar audax's, 100, 150, 200 as they're reasonably convenient off the ferry (if you can call a 14hour ferry convenient) Plus some exploring in the cairngorms in Easter and the summer while on family holidays....

Hoping to do it, or a variation on it next year. Ferry down to Orkney then across to Scrabster and take it from there and back via Orkney. Looks ace doesn't it? :-bd

Re: Making the distance

Not even considered going SS, hills are tough enough for me with gears  Interested to know what gearing you use to make hills manageable whilst not spinning out too much on the flat. Thinking of going 1X is as close to SS as I've thought  I'm with you jameso on the base miles allowing me ...

Re: Making the distance

Yup I over think things and get type A obsessive. Like I say I think I need to chill out with it more. I've always been competitive, though not at the top of any game, with friends and an ultra brother who are more capable, so I judge my self pretty harshly, which is pointless. Probably just need to...

Re: Making the distance

Cheers again. No that time on the trainer wasn't a training plan just a personal challenge. The resistance wasn't dialled down so I was most certainly sweating :-bd An hour at a time isn't a problem, though doing a steady base miles session is boring. I have sufferfest video that I'll do earlier nex...

Re: Making the distance

Haha! Summer in Sheltand equals black out blinds and curtains or t-shirt over my head if camping. The issue is more how many hours I can keep plugging away before just having to stop and have a lie down/nap. Daft as it may sound I have a history of CFS/ME (very bad for a few years), but now I have b...

Re: Making the distance

Cheers. No, 6 hours was just a one off! daft idea to do 100 miles as I've never done it which was extended to 200km for the he'll of it. Apocalypse Now and then podcasts kept me sane. Didn't feel too bad after 161km but the last 39km were tough going. Other than when the weather allows lately I've b...

Re: Making the distance

So are many of you able to do the 'sleeping in a hedge for an hour' type of thing? other than if it was a one off 24 like the strathpuffer I'm definitely in the ' in bed by 9 ( of not before) group'. Though early starts aren't an issue

Re: Making the distance

Cheers for the responses. The reason for asking is that for all I like to just get out and ride and do my owns thing, I'm no racing snake. Whenever I look at organised rides like sportives or for example the Dirty Reiver or ITTs I have doubts about entering as for all I could possibly manage the dis...

Making the distance

Hi, Just wondered what sort of training/riding youse do to make the distance of some of these long distance routes and how much you'd normal ly expect to do a day bikepacking as opposed to an ITT? My longest road ride is only 112km and off road about 95km in a day. As a daft personal challenge today...

Thankfully don't seem to have any ticks up here despite thousands of woolly buggers, heather and bog, maybe the lack of bracken and trees?

Yeh had look on the site and there are 3 sizes, probably go with the smaller one, just waiting for approval from the boss. Just had our whopping 1% pay increase in the payslip, but with the back dating it means I have the money for one :-bd

Re: Dirty Reiver: 200k UK Gravel event

200km with 15 hours (7am start until 10pm finish) works out minimum overall average of 13kph including stops to avoid being taken off...

Mmm.... I see on FB they're saying '10mph should see you round' without cut off, but no cut off times at 50/100/150 have being quoted.
