From what I've gathered, most peoples budget is sub £300, but sub £500 might be more reasonable
(I'm not looking to buy, I'm still testing the longevity of a £160 bike, still surprised after 6 months and 600miles of welsh valleys)

Budget Bikepacking Bike?
A question without an answer no doubt but worth a debate.... What would be a budget bikepacking bike? I know its probably whatever bike you already own but if you were to have a bike solely for touring what's the best option for cheap? I've always been of the opinion of K.I.S.S, and prefer high qual...

Re: a 3 day loop, Neath/Afan Valley
Halfway through day 2, conquered Blue scar trail, while average for single-track it was more technical than I'm used to, mostly fireroads, towpaths and gravel roads for me A few accidents, alot of mud, plenty of rain, and some odd looks as I was climbing on a fully loaded hardtail while most were on...

Re: a 3 day loop, Neath/Afan Valley
Day 1 done, 35 miles of NCN and road. pitched up at the bike centre, quite warm night but midges out in full force, got eaten alive by 9pm Sat in the cafe now for a full English (although late) breakfast, then a few loops of single track to pontydryfen to start the day Still no pics till I get image...

I've found karrimor to be great for budget gear, I've used an assortment of their dry bags for 2 years, only one has delaminated after ending up in the wash...oops
Although there's a clear difference in quality now I've used Alpkit ones, they still do the job

Re: D of E List
I've witnessed many DofE guys struggling with their massive packs and I often wonder what the actually put IN them? I mean I see all the time the rollmat, tent and sleeping bag strapped to the outside, with a few pots dangling from a carabiner, what on earth do they fill it with? I can quite happy d...

Good read and beautiful area :)
Had the same Yellowstone tent myself, it was cheap and nasty but kept me alive for a few nights and was my first Step towards lightweight, so cant complain if it still gets you itching to go again :)

a 3 day loop, Neath/Afan Valley
Plans are set for a 3 day 2 night trip around my local mountains, distance is hardly epic but ill be going at tourist speed, soaking in the trails and scenery. Although this is the valleys, so some pretty gnarly climbs are unavoidable ;) I leave today, 12 miles of canal towpath to town, then meet up...

Re: food for a weekend?
Not exactly a nightmare...just inconvenient, at the end of the day its the kick in the ar** I needed, it is my sole driving force and motivation to get out and prove I can do something, for that reason alone I consider myself lucky I've considered a pump, but they don't make them in carbon or titani...

Type 1 Diabetic, Insulin Dependent I never go anywhere without sugar as its used to treat hypoglycemia, and lows can be quite awful cycling However because I'm so well controlled, I'm also very sensitive, too much sugar, or too much insulin are both dangerous, and while I can very occasionally have ...

Re: food for a weekend?
Excuse my ignorance ... how do you get on with honey? I read somewhere that honey behaves differently from other sugars. My flapjacks are only made with oats, butter and honey. Its true, honey usually behaves differently due to the fiber content, kinda like fruit. However after a few experiments I ...

Re: food for a weekend?
I tend to find myself living off low sugar muesli bars, cheap noodles and pasta and bread rolls The bread is great for controlling my sugars but bulky long term, so I just stock up at bakeries, nothing more cliche than a cyclist with French bread on his bike Flapjacks seem like very dense food, alot...

food for a weekend?
Weekends coming up and I'm planning a 3 day/2 night across the Afan valley. What food do you guys normally take to keep you stocked, other than the local pubs special ;) I'm looking at more options on grub, but here's the catch, aside from emergency and first aid, I'm strictly LOW SUGAR, so the typi...

Re: What motivates you?
My Condition, simple as Diabetes has forced my hand into a much stricter diet and lifestyle, prior to diagnosis I was a freerunner, and training to be a track sprinter, then I lost all my muscle, fat and looked like a dried raisin... I wanted to prove to myself it wouldn't stop me, life doesn't end ...

Re: New to the forum
My difficulty is finding a compromise between going lightweight, and my partner being comfortable. For solo trips my tarp and bivi combo weighs under 800g quite cheaply, and I find myself quite comfortable, but too minimal for her, I figured 1300g each for enough space to live out of a good compromi...

Re: New to the forum
Any advice on a light 2 person tent? I've been looking at the ultralight offerings from decathlon, 2.6kg for a 3berth with room for bikes seems reasonable, more so as it'll be split between 2 A tent is needed as most trips will be with my partner, and she wasn't impressed when I showed her alpkit's ...

Hello all, recently joined and what better first post than an introduction? I'm based in the south wales valleys, smack in the middle of Brecon and the afan valley bike centre. I'm a hiker turned cyclist, due to being unable to drive my road bike is my main mode of transport, with my mtb replacing m...
