Re: Proposed Wind Farm near Glaslyn

we need electricity for almost everything we do. except cycling.... unless ... oh. Yes it will be awful and yes some flowers and animals will become extinct but if the alternative is for my children and grand children to become extinct then I'm afraid the plants and animals will have to go. I'm sor...

Re: An interesting bikerafting route up in the Highlands

I'm 57 and am equally happy with imperial or metric, usually swapping between the two in a single measurement, cm/inches especially 6" is 15cm and and flop between the two randomly. But I just can't be doing with cycling in km. I appreciate they tick over quicker and the numbers are bigger for ...

not overly challenging and seems to be quite a good use of the raft to allow you to follow a route you couldn't do without one. "This route has an overall difficulty of 8 out of 10. Physical Demand (8.5): With a max gradient of 22.9%, this route has 7,838 feet (2,389 metres) of climbing over 1...

Re: What are you reading now?

@Godivatrailrider (I can't sort out the quote thing) . I read 'Foster' on a ferry 18 months ago and watched the film 'The Quiet Girl' based on the book last year. Excellent writer, I also read 'Small Things Like These' on the same trip, that has just been filmed with Cillian Murphy in the lead. Not...

It's all ups and downs no official weigh in with Pancakes and then my first attempt at meringues for Valentines Eton Mess ... they didn't stiffen up as much as I hoped (it's my age apparently) so were a bit chewy.
Tuesday I was 15st 5.5lbs not good , but not terrible.

Re: What are you reading now?

Having finished the very disappointing 'Goth - a history" I'm now on the interesting "The Silent Hills of Shropshire" by Malcolm Saville, it's definitely making me want to go and explore the Long Mynd much more! I hardly ever ride there. I don't live near the Long Mynd but have been ...

Currently Wifedom ... about Orwell's invisible wife Eileen .. How was it? Assassinatory. Orwell was patently a complex man with significant issues, and I for one don't think he was without massive flaws in his character and behaviour towards women. But Funder does a cracking job of highlighting the...

On my Kindle I am reading Claire Keegan's 'Antartica' and on paper I have just started The Great Divide by Tim Voors. He walked the CDT a couple of years ago. Enjoying it so far. I just read Claire Keegan's "Foster" .... Oh it's perfect takes an hour or so to read the 88 pages but...

Re: Lowest useable gear

30T arrived, fitted and tested.... I'm pleased. It works fine with the 11/51 cassette, not had to chance to test off road but did a stiff road climb ok, easy spinning for the most part. The other end so far is fine, had a couple of longish flat road spins and it was fine there too usually with 1 or ...

Sad to see Pat Adams has slipped off this mortal coil.
Never saw him exactly looking healthy, but do appreciate his efforts running Mountain Mayhem and taking the the time to shake hands with every finisher crossing the line.

Ride With GPS POI

Do I need to have the top level PREMIUM subscription ($80 pa) just to add a poi saying , Pub, Cafe, BCQ or Camping? Seems a tad mean. There's a Basic subscription ($60 pa) but that feature doesn't seem to be included. Or is there a work around? Do the planning with RWG but then add POI with ??? It's...

Loaded up for the HT I had 30-51 (1x12, 29 wheels) Cheers Mart! I've bought a 30T .... shame they delivered a 32T .... awaiting the replacement. 30/51 1x11 should be lower than the Rooster and on slightly smaller wheels. Will give it a go on the local trails, & for WRT, but possibly put the 32T...

Re: Lowest useable gear

So along with this ... does anyone else zig-zag up steep climbs , usually only on lanes tbh ? If I've reached my lowest gear and the road is still a bit too steep, I then start zig-zaging across the lane. It certainly helps, just takes a bit longer. It has to be easier.... if you've gone further up ...

Possibly up the Dylife valley... I usually head up the track out the back of BBTowers but have come down the Dylife descent... I'd definitely be walking up that. Or it could be the grassy climb heading out the back of the Towers then up towards NYA.. Or pretty much any other direction from the Towe...

WRT 2022? I remember riding up a steep grassy slope not long after leaving the Towers, passing a couple of groups, regrouping and chatting at the gate near the top.
